nice movie
source: Switched Before Birth
Is this supposed to be a drama-thriller? Cause I saw zero thriller in it. Although that's probably for the best, cause the ending was everything I can hope for in a movie. After all, everyone loves a happy ending. Two friends pitted against each other because some human error at the lab? And then they reached a peaceful resolution and finally redeemed their friendship back? Oh, it's so beautiful that I added another star for my final rating! I haven't seen an ending this satisfying in quite some time. If you like family drama, I recommend this one for you.
I like to catch these moral dilemma shows from time to time. If I'm being honest, Skyler Samuels lured me in, otherwise I probably would have skipped over this.. She was great in The Gates, 9 Lives of Chloe King, The Gifted. Anyway.. the actual moral dilemma part of this story is pretty good, including the reactions, despair, hardships and the thought provoking concepts. I was onboard with that, except for the obvious flaw of trying to insert mixed race into the narrative which served no purpose other than to dilute the issue and insert implausibility into what could have been a little more compelling. It seemed like it was only put in story to sway your mindset to be one-sided (whether rightly so or not). Unfortunately, that induces a gimmicky taste, when it didn't need to. A pretty fair one-time watch if you like moral dilemma demonstrations (and Skyler Samuels).
This movie held my interest but there were also things that didn't make sense. How could a couple have twins and one is a blonde girl and the other an obviously different ethnic boy and no one noticed? This stood out like a sore thumb. The two lead ladies were great friends until the parentage of the boy was found out 4+ months after his birth. Custody of the boy should have been shared and then tapered off so this his biological parents had full custody. The court had to make this decision. After much fighting and hatred between the two couples THEN a couple of months later they miraculously become BFF's again.
