Marvel has a lot of people to fire. It feels like they let some 7 year old kid write the script, then hired his 8 year old brother to direct and gave them about $10 total to do the animation. Seriously, I don't usually care about stuff like animation, but they tried to make it more realistic looking but they skimped so hard the whole thing just ended up super off putting and upsetting. They'd have been better off just doing normal cartoon animation. The script is the worst part though. I could write a ten page essay on the issues with their writing, but it'll suffice to say that Hulk spends the entire movie making terrible plays on words, trying to logically argue with Stark, and at times even pontificating?? He's the hulk, even in the comics he could barely form a coherent thought. If I'm being honest, it felt like I was watching the cutscenes from a super low budget video game from some studio that's already out of business. I guarantee marvel that the brand damage this movie did far outweighs whatever profit it made. Some movies are so bad that they're better left unmade.
Not wanting anyone to forget about their characters in between films, Marvel unleashes the CG-animated feature "Iron Man and Hulk: Heroes United." Apparently, these two super heroes don't need the rest of the Avengers to get the job done. The great green behemoth and heavy metal warrior can take on super-villains just fine as a dysfunctional duo. The Invincible Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk team up for the first time ever to battle an energy consuming monster named Zzzax. Neither of these super heroes can take on this tremendous threat alone. With the fate of the planet at stake, they must combine forces and set aside their differences to save the world. There's enough action and adventure found in "Iron Man and Hulk: Heroes United" to keep children happy. However, if you move past the slamming and banging and look at animation quality, you can forget it. This is more of the same shoddy CG work that anyone with any sort of viewing standards would shut off. It's a step above the crappy "Iron Man: Armored Adventures" CG, but that's not saying much. Kids will no doubt enjoy "Iron Man and Hulk: Heroes United" for what it is. Their parents will cringe as they are forced to sit through more second rate CG animation that borders on unbearable. Marvel accomplished what they set out to do in the end. They created something else for the younger fans to bug their parents to buy for them. For my Marvel fix, I'll stick with the "Ultimate Avengers" animated movies.
This is money grubbing opportunistic dribble at it's worst. Terrible animation, disjointed, pointless story and a real blotch on the MCU. Watch it if you must, but don't expect anything remarkable. It plays like an old, poorly created video game. Shame on you Marvel!
Marvel may be the king of the world in terms of their blockbuster films but in terms of animated ones they've been for the most part slumming it like a wet dog on a hot summer's day. And even a wet dog can do better. Sadly Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United might be one of their worst animated films in quite a while. Not Howard The Duck or 90's Captain America levels of bad, mind you (even though they aren't animated films), but nevertheless still an absolute mess. So two Hydra scientists have supercharged Iron Man's Arc Reactor with Hulk's Gamma Energy and created a electricity thing called Zzzaxx. Obviously Iron Man and Hulk (who did you expect if was gonna be?) are the only ones who can take him down but first they've gotta go through a whole ton of other villains. They also have to face off with some really childish dialogue. I mean, no sort of super hero or villain would ever say anything as silly as the stuff the film presents. They'd be cringing till their pants fall down. The Marvel trademark of humour is also here but it's very rarely funny and feels more like a distraction than anything else. Voice acting is pretty eh as well. David Kaye's good as Jarvis but Adrian Pasdar's voice feels off for Iron Man. He's supposed to sound like some millionaire guy, not some random college student. Oh yes and the animation is quite frankly abysmal, even for Marvel standards. It's meant to be cel-shaded to make it feel like a comic but everyone moves in a jerky type of move and it feels so choppy that you won't even notice. Sorry Marvel, DC's still the king of animated films.
