Really Netflix? This is an all time low for your network. All the hype in the world could not make this a program worth watching. Five minutes in and I was done. All the nonsense in the beginning that was put together just for a ten minute contest at the end of the program. What's also an insult is that the MC actually called this a sport. Two people being gluttons is not a sport; it's actually a sin. If anyone cares to watch this, just fast forward to the last ten minutes and have at it. Then you have the audience; mainly actors who are pretending like they're having the time of their lives. Overall it's an awful program and a waste of time.
As soon as Rob Riggle appeared on the screen, I started laughing in an almost pavlovian way. For a nanosecond I was like, is that the Nickelodeon slime guy? Wait, it's the "in the faaaaace" guy from The Hangover! This probably won't suck. Look, this is complete trash television, but Netflix is clearly elevating the lifestyles of competitive eaters and they should be commended for it. I hope the network gets tons of views and I hope the contestants get rich with continued specials and features. I probably mean rich-ish, it's all relative. You're not watching this to further humanity in any meaningful way. You're watching this to celebrate some dexterous improv by the hosts along with a group of ordinary-seeming people that compete at a world class level. It's more than a little impressive.
