Film Review: Bengali Film Raktabeej streaming on Hoichoi!! Based on the Burdwan blast in West Bengal, Raktabeej is a gripping political thriller by director duo Nandita Roy - Shiboprasad Mukherjee. Victor Banerjee , who plays the President of India ( has a strong resemblance to Pranab Mukherjee) who has rejected a mercy petition which leads to hanging of a terrorist ( Afzal Guru ) is due to return to his hometown for Durga Puja . Meanwhile a blast in an illegal fireworks factory in the remote village of Khoyragarh is more than what it seems and is linked to a sinister & audacious plot to assassinate the President . No one can be trusted as there might be insiders involved in the conspiracy. It is up to police officers Abir Chatterjee & Mimi Chakraborty to piece together the clues and prevent the tragedy. The script is tight , narrative-fast paced which makes it an edge of the seat political thriller . The songs too compliment the storyline perfectly. Special mention for the chemistry between veteran actor Victor Banerjee & Anashua Majumder ( who plays the President's elder sister) . Their bond has been very well portrayed. Abir Chatterjee is brilliant as usual . Mimi Chakraborty has a role on par with Abir. Their banter, nok-jhok throughout the film is pleasing to watch. Grt camaraderie indeed. Kanchan Mallick as the local investigating officer steals the show with his funny one-liners which will make u laugh out loud for sure. There are others in the cast who also lend strong support to the main cast !! There is an interesting cameo by Ankush Hazra and a male item no. Too !! The climax has been brilliantly conceived & the final reveal is well worth the wait !! The sheer deviousness of human nature will surely send a chill down ur spine!! The ending has been kept open for a sequel !! Waiting eagerly for it !! Shonada ( Abir 😊) we love u !! Going with 3.5/5 for this one .. Shiboprasad-Nandita duo is a prominent name in the Bengali film fraternity. They started their career with some groundbreaking movies that were ahead of their time. Gradually, their work became monotonous and somehow lingered in the family drama genre. After a long hiatus, they made a comeback with a social-thriller named 'Raktabeej,' featuring an ensemble cast, including the ace actor Victor Banerjee, Anusuya Majumder, Kanchan Mallick, Abir Chatterjee, Mimi Chakraborty, etc. In this tumultuous time when directors are often hesitant to create political films, the director duo showed their courage by choosing a bold subject against the backdrop of the Khagragarh blast. The screenplay and editing of this film are top-notch, and the supporting characters have done an excellent job. The music, while good, sometimes hindered the pace of the film. The linear screenplay is perfectly matched with the festive mood. This movie raises a valid question: 'Is forgiving always the right decision?' Kudos to this director duo for bringing us such unique content in Bengali cinema. I'm eagerly awaiting its sequel.

A movie so real, I clung to my seat even in the interval. Intense and jaw-dropping. I can still recall my goosebumps. The movie brings to life the true incident of Khagragarh and shows us a glimpse of the grim reality we have been deliberately overlooking. Careful plans that enemies of our country and our sovereignty hatch each new day have been wreaking havoc on our soil for many years. The pampering of these divisive forces that try to use liberalism and humanism as a shield is what has led to this terrible condition in the state. Justice sits a mute spectator when enemies from across the border can come and threaten the life of our esteemed President in his home state on an occasion as auspicious as Durga Puja. The fiends who hatch these terrible plots and heinous crimes need to be given exemplary punishment and all voices that defend them should also be taken note of. The disease is a life-threatening one and is spreading like an infection. Diagnosis has been delayed for long enough. The acting was superb. Abir, Mimi and Victor Sir were fabulous in their respective roles. More power to you. I thank the directors for giving us a dose of much-needed reality check that we had been denied for long. What is the use of cinema if it does not deliver content that educates? This cinema truly educates us to the dangers that staying passive and timid and ignorant to the known threat have invited. It is a wake up call for all. Jai Hind. Jai Bharat. Vande Maataram.

#Raktabeej : Fabulous Cinematography, Crisp Editing, Fantabulous Music & Gripping Screenplay with a Superb Narrative Style, twists and turns till the end. #AbirChatterjee, #MimiChakraborty, #DebasishMondal and #UmaBanerjee stole the show eclipsing others, even #VictorBanerjee and #AnasuaMajumdar. #KanchanMallick, #ParometaMukherjee & #DevlinaKumar has their moments though. #MaulikGhosh needs to be praised with special mention. But #SatyamBhattacharya, #KanchanMallick, #SubhaRanjanMukherjee & #AmbarishBhattacharya has been a miscasted and wasted as a whole. But #TanusreeShankar has her presence amply felt in her brief cameo, just because of the character of whom she has played ... #AnkushHazra has his moments in the foot-tapping item number ( and may be many more which u had to check out urself ). Well, must say, it has got one of the best Climax sequence ever in the recent Bengali films been shot. Kudos to the director duo #NanditaRoy & #ShiboprosadMukherjee and co-writer #ZiniaSen for making a such a brilliant and well-made, social-awareness and relevant Film. Indeed it will attract repeat audiences too. A must-watch this puja. It is a perfect Puja Film and truly a Game-Changer.
