Friction fun: Friction in a bottle! Materials: 1. Clear plastic bottles 2. Funnel 3. Rice 4. Pencil Instructions: 1. Place the mouthpiece in a plastic bottle. 2. Fill the bottle completely with rice. 3. Insert the pencil directly into the bottle. 4. Try to pick up the pencil. 5. If your pencil comes off, gently tap the bottle on the table to make sure the rice is around the pencil What happened? The friction between the grain of rice and the pencil becomes so strong that you can lift the bottle without the pencil slipping.
