Recently I've been watching sports related anime's in an attempt to understand how Japanese culture views sports individualism vs teams. Two American movies I really enjoyed are Slap Shot and Goon and again I'm not a fan of hockey, but those two movies kind of typify American (or Canadian) rugged individualism vs team or group culture and are very funny, and in some ways Mix shows their cultural belief in the power of family, the Apple not falling far from the tree is actually said a couple of times, that yes they work hard, but it's also their fathers ability is a very important factor, even if it's hidden from them. It is a nice Jr high, and Highschool slice of life with age appropriate relationships and some breaking the fourth wall jokes. Not as exciting as the volleyball anime, not as mystical as the a certain basketball anime, and nowhere near as over the top as the Sumo anime, but an interesting piece, really looking forward to season 2...
