Two brilliant actors addressing a real life situation and delivering a brilliant result. Heart-warming and hilarious.
Promos didn't give it justice. I thought to myself, here's another goofy comedy with stereotypical gay characters, and some annoying kid. Boy was I wrong. It thankfully has more lawyers than that, and stands in the good indie flick category. Which I prefer. It helped making things more tangible. The drama is there too, but never to the point of being tacky. I loved that little trio, they had such an interesting dynamic. So did the actors, who did a terrific job. And the supporting roles were perfect for it. I was glad to see Kate Walsh make a cameo, and quickly understood why her character wasn't in more scenes. That wasn't the point. The point was to depict a couple in crisis, faced with a life changing event, in the most realistic and compelling manner. Mission accomplished. It was everything you'd expect of a good comedy, and movie in general. And despite the subject, it was never preachy and had heart. Nice pick.
I love this movie I thought it was quite brilliantly written and acted. The characters were interesting and there was no lecturing . Just a story about people loving each other.
Don't need to write many words, if you like Paul Rudd and/or Steve Coogan- watch this film! Ignore the bad reviews... Watch it, you won't be disappointed!
I'm sorry if you don't find this movie funny then you are a SQUARE. This movie has such taboo topics but has put a humorous twist on it. Steve Coogan being heterosexual in real life(I think) plays being gay so realistic, hands down did an awesome job. Paul Rudd and Steve did great realistic acting against each other to where I felt like I was hanging out in the house with them.I seriously laughed every scene,I'm serious. I created an account just to write this review on how much I loved this movie. The only reason it didn't get 10 stars is because of the ending .The movie gave sooooo much throughout that the ending seemed like they gave up and a bit thrown together. Overall this is just one of those comedy movies you will never forget and can watch over and over.
Rudd and Cougen are near perfect as the squabbling yet loving gay couple. The 'kid' with baggage does a fine job as well. The setting, a wealthy celeb couple with unlimited funds and Cougen's relentless quirkiness adds smiles galore. The 'touching' moments and serious family issues also hit many targets. All and all a well written, crafted and delightful film. Can't wait for the sequel!
