This came up on Sky this morning, dreadful acting, really slow. I gave up.
Lacked subtitling for the Spanish speaking dialogue, and there was a lot, which made no sense as subtitling existed for the English speaking portions so the cost to add the rest would have been minimal. A bit different take on criminal activity. Just can't trust those sweet mamas & daughters. Definitely not going swimming in that lake. The suspense is in how you think it's going to end.
Simple story, clean and easy execution. Nothing extraordinary. But there is something that says let me give it the benefit of the doubt.
This film start with a man been poisoning, and the man been throw into the lake scene! As turnout, this film is about a daughter "Ester" need to start a new life by killing her mother "Teresa", who grabbing the money of the lodgers, after poisoning them! Entire film quite slow, and full of annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the close-up facial scene, overuse of the walking scene, overuse of the driving scene, overuse of the drowning scene, and overuse of the dining scene! Make the film unwatchable! Barely intense scene is, Teresa stab Ignacio with a cross to kill him! At the end, Ester poison her mother and throw her into the lake! She rest on the boat at the very end! That's it! Wasting time to watch!
Simple story of a girl who stays with his mother at a lake side and offer shelter for tourists. But their real aim is to kill them and got a lot of money so that they can live a happy life somewhere long away from lake. One day a young boy is coming with his wounded friend to take shelter and threatening girl and her mother with a gun to secure safety. Meanwhile killer family was going to kill a man already. Later young girl fell in love with that boy. What is next and end? You have to watch this movie. The weak side of this movie is its slowness. Casting and acting is just okay. Somewhere emotions are surpassed to dull story line. Watchable at once but not much expectations.
If you look through the other reviews here you'll see a rash of early 10s and from then on it seems like every review swings wildly between love and extreme dislike. If I had to guess why it would be around expectations and perhaps marketing too. This film isn't a thriller or a horror in the conventional sense. That's neither bad or good in itself, but if you were expecting a slasher film you'd be disappointed. Instead Coyote Lake is a dark but gently paced and fairly simple story that is well written, well shot and well acted. I would definitely recommend it, but I would also advise that the viewer goes in with as little expectations as possible to maximise the experience.
Mesmerizing and captivating. The film grabs your attention and takes you on a journey where you are glued to the screen waiting to see how the story unfolds. Carmella Mendea is incredible and her character leaves you wanting more, maybe a sequel to see how she takes on the world. The other actors do their parts incredibly well.
