How has this got 2 stars? The level of racism in this world is astounding. This is an exceptional display of black culture, unbelievably awe inspiring visuals, where music, dance, fashion and acting comes together To what can only be described as ART.
This was the biggest self indulgence project ever. I always think that if we had someone who wasn't famous do a movie like this, would we all like it? Take away the fame and with the preexisting idolised vision of the person away from the viewer what would we all think then? A movie should be able to stand on its own, insulated from requiring people to have a preexisting connection with the actor in the lead role. Those who say it will be iconic for generations to come are simply wrong. Vanity at its finest!
10/10 for visuals 10/10 for wardrobe & style 10/10 for Black pride 7/10 for songs 1/10 For plot wise It had an essence of the Lion King but overall failed to connect with the audience. I love lady B and her artistic expression and contribution to African pride. Sadly it was lacking and many ppl of course are offended. I'm not.
Some of the visual aspects were well done, and aesthetically pleasing. However, there's really not much else there.
Cultural appropriation at its best, apparently acceptable purely on skin colour. Divisive title to grab publicity.
This is breathtaking music to the ears and eyes. A representation of black beauty, diverse African culture and history. It is a shame that resentful and insecure people have voted this movie down without having seen it. She included people of all races, focusing on one specific race that needs a little more love and celebration. If you don't understand how important and monumental this movie was, I hope you will in the future. This one is for the history books! Directed by Beyoncé Knowles Carter and dedicated to her son Sir! I hope to see this movie at the Oscars.
With the multi-millionaire Beyonce, backed by millions and millions of Disney dollars, you'd think they could come up with something better than this. Not much more than a glorified MTV video. Granted, some scenes are stunningly beautiful but there is no substance. One of the previous reviewers stated "With Beyoncé's skill and talent I would've expected better music and dance choreography." I'll take Jasmyne Contours skill and talent over Beyonce anyday. Look her up... you'll find real substance in her videos.
Black is King is mildly enjoyable for its entire duration, but it's not investing in the slightest. Great cinematography doesn't necessarily make a great movie.
