Better Than Love is definitely no easy entertainment. It's an intense emotional ride with superb acting taking you into a dark world, and confronting you with problems you might never see otherwise. Highly recommended.
This topical film deals with some very deep and heart wrenching issues involving drug addiction. It's a powerful and well executed film with excellent acting! Incredibly well done story.
This movie was incredibly engaging! There are very few movies that I feel are this truthful and humanizing to those who struggle with addiction. This film was powerful in that it focused on the person themselves going through the struggle of addiction rather than on the common narrative of trying to save them from themselves. I recommend it for anyone interested in the opioid epidemic this is an extremely well-done movie!
This movie tackles a very current topic. The opioid epidemic. The story really portraits how insidious addiction gets. I also loved that they set it in Seattle. It felt like the storyteller was telling a personal piece. And I love that feeling watching a story. The story focus on the journey of the lead, played by Andrew Lawrence, and he really goes all in on this piece. Very touching performance. I am looking forward to see more.
As rampant and as explicitly destructive as opioid addiction is increasingly understood to be, one would think the creative arts would've risen to the challenge of depicting this red alert crisis on a much wider, more versatile, and more nuanced scale. "Better Than Love" loudly responds to that relative creative silence by acquitting itself as a highly engrossing film, and in no small part by riding a great performance from Andrew Lawrence all the way to the winner's circle. Lawrence plays Jon - yes, he's a nickel and dime drug dealer, but also a wholly decent human on the inside - whose initially sustainable relationship with traditional street drugs soon meets with the monster that is fentanyl. As art appropriately reflects our truths in life, Jon is quickly in over his head at the deep end of the pool, as this is a drug whose power and addictive qualities seemingly tear through the most steeled of human lives, creating a permeating helplessness that's nearly impossible to then separate from. This is an addiction film, and addiction is resoundingly bleak. Verily, the film does not depict Rocky joyously defeating his opponent, or Ewoks dancing in the forest, and kudos to this production team for keeping it real. Throughout its course, "Better Than Love" is an immersive and very well-executed independent film made for consumers who don't mind subjecting themselves to the very real underbelly of our most brutal human trappings.
Yes the movie is dark, but so is the subject. A stellar cast takes you on a journey though their personal struggle and in the end doesn't disappoint. This subject seems to be prevalent in film making today, and this film is a great representation of the subject. Good job.
This film offers a dose of reality in the examination of addiction to opioids. Very real feeling - the acting is top notch, the cinematography style lends itself to the gritty nature of the peice and the music elevates the tine. Very well done!
A powerful performance by Andrew Lawrence! Bravo!!!! Better than Love is beautifully written, shot, and directed! The actors performances were on point and still had a realistic natural feel to their lifestyle not over doing it. Picture perfect. The twist this movie took was intense and knowing it was based on a true story it's extremely devastating. This is a great film with a strong message and many more people should be aware of that message, which is how addicting and dangerous over the counter drugs can be!
Wasted my night watching this train wreck of a movie. A high school film class could have produced a better movie. The timelines are terrible. There's absolutely no character development and the movie continuously jumps storylines, very hard to follow. Don't believe the other, obviously, paid reviews.
