Athiran

This movie was supposed to be the magnum opus of Malayalam psycho thrillers but regardless such a great script, that in the wrong hands of a naïve, rather amateurish director. Shockingly actors were ironically seemed over/underacting to most of the scenes. To me it seemed like a stage act being canned. I am sure that at least the scriptwriter must have sobbed for months since his script went vain in the wrong hands. But there's no authenticity to the whole script as it was an adaptation of it is hollywood origin. Also the movie was too colorful to be a period movie portraying the late 60's or early 70's. it should have more raw and rustic. I was totally disturbed to watch such an awful rendition

This is an inferior haphazard copy of english film "Stonehearst Asylum" starring Kate Beckinsale & Jim Sturgess. I highly recommend any movie lover to watch the english version rather than this boring trash.

Take the script of a hollywood movie.Add illam as flashback and add a nair character as hero.Now make the character speak English dialogues mixed with malayalam here and there.Add love and taboos.Done You have made special Athiran dish

I won't suggest this movie to all those who have seen "9" and "Shutter Island" , they might feel this movie a bit cliche because the film follows a similar pattern . Apart from that it's all good , especially the sound it has to be experienced in cinema and it's stunning visuals .

Athiran's biggest drawback is its predictability of the plot twists. Fahad and sai pallavi don't have any chemistry whether it's romantically or as a doctor-patient. There is no character development or focus on the 5 patients. Acting was not upto the mark. Fahad was not at his best, atul kulkarni and prakash raj were wasted. Their dubbing was also poor. Sai pallavi has nothing to perform and very less to emote. But her flexibility in kalari was good. And why this film was set in 60-70 is I can't understand. There wouldn't be any change in story if it was set in present time. On the whole, athiran is like a book whose cover looks good but has many holes in the pages.

Did not like the film, I thought direction by Vivek was poor. I had seen 'Shutter Island' long time ago, the basic plot is same, but the films are not even comparable.
