A tender, simple, but genuine story about the excitement of first love, that is also exploring the struggle of getting to know yourself and your place in your community/family at the same time. "This Place" plays with many parallel motives, that are intriguing and interesting to unravel for viewers - for example the two parallel relationships with the girls' fathers, being part of ethnic minorities or trying to pursue the right carrer path. I really appreaciated how Nayani, the director, managed to show how similar but yet so different the lives of our two protagonists were and how they were able to share some parts of their lives while with others they had to deal with by themselves alone - which (dare I say) reflected of how the early stages of a relationship work in real life. On the other hand I must say that the short runtime might have done this film injustice, because all of the themes could have been explored on a deeper level and because of that the relationships in this picture seem a bit shallow. Still I think it is worth watching.
