In terms of story there is nothing really new here, except maybe the inclusion of a trans/non-binary person as a main character. Big time sporting hero hits rock bottom and does something stupid so heads back to small town to redeem themselves and then get connected to the kids they are mentoring before making a decision about what's most important. The difference with this movie is a fantastic performance from Andrew Dice Clay, who seems to be making a comeback as a serious actor instead of comedic, and likeable characters (even if they are stereotyped). If you want a bit of lighthearted family fun then you'll enjoy this but if you are looking for an inspirational life-changing sports movie this probably won't fit the bill.
