I do see two other reviews here, both of which managed to praise this production, so here I am, ready to ruin everything. I am not a big fan of gore, and this one has plenty of it, I do appreciate a good low sci fi horror, yet I feel it is not the case here, and had a serious problem with the acting and writing. True, it did seem that The Mildew was not supposed to be taken seriously, and pays homage to other such movies, but I do think they could have managed a whole lot more if they went the proper wdirection. It is more like Machete but focusing mainly on gore and overreacting without actually having anything to offer. For me it is a definite No, but strangely enough I do see how others might find it appealing. Just be warned, it is 80% green liquid, 10% screams and 10% close ups of annoying laughter. Cheers!
The official summary does not list this movie as a comedy sci-fi horror spoof, but that's what it is. At first i did not like the movie because it was not listed as a comedy, but if you keep watching it was always meant to be a comedy spoof. Once you realize that, it is pretty cool. This would have made a great drive in movie back in the old days. Today it is on par with the "Saturday Night Live" shows of the 80's. Think of the old Julia Childs'cooking spoofs that SNL did. The tongue in cheek humor and special effects will appeal to the 8 year old boy in all of us who have ever made a home movie. In fact the effects are a big part of what makes this movie endearing.
