Sakamoto Days

I think Sakamoto Days is another failed live-action adaptation, and surprisingly, the action isn't the main problem. It tries too hard to translate the manga's humor directly into live action, and a lot of it just feels forced and cringe. The worst is when fights literally pause for a joke, killing all the tension and hype. The Fable and Baby Assassins balance comedy and action much better because they know when to separate them. Sakamoto Days tries doing both at once and fails spectacularly. It's a shame because the fights aren't bad, but the exaggerated abilities create an awkward middle ground: too cartoonish to feel grounded, yet live action can't recreate the manga's insanity. Maybe it's simply one of those manga that doesn't translate well to live action.
