So, I typically don't write reviews... However, after reading a couple of reviews I've decided I must do this. One reviewer said that after 20 minutes you would be able to figure out the rest of the movie. THIS IS NOT TRUE! NOT EVEN IN THE SLIGHTEST! The movie keeps you guessing and there are really good actors. I consider this a must see for anyone who likes the classic romantic comedy.
One of the worst movies ever. Lots of great talent but the story is just lame. It's so bad I can't even describe it. We sat through it for 30 minutes & asked for a refund.
What more does one need for a date movie. The guys will hate it but it's pleasing to watch and entertainment. Nothing grand , not Oscar quality but the stars are recognizable , like Catherine Zeta and Danish Quaid, but it's fine and entertaining! Doesn't deserve to be panned.
Everyone is complaining about the cast, but these folks can only do what they can with the horrible script that the producers and directors chose to turn over a quick buck. We must remember "it's all about the money!" For a mere 35,000,000.00 this horrible story raked in a hefty profit (according to the unconfirmed stats of IMDb)...not a bad return for one's initial investment. What really sucks is the female lead...how pathetic...do you really think that this woman is going to go back to that loser husband???? Jeez, let's keep feeding into that stereotype...it's no wonder women can never get ahead with the imposed expectations that Hollywood places upon them...shame on you....boo...OMG...I'm at the part where she comes back to him. Poor children who watch this. No wonder there are so many screwed up kids who think mommy and daddy will get back together...ahhhhhhhh
this is a good movie to wait until it comes out on video to watch and save money. I was annoyed to have spent money to see it. Wanted to see movie because butler was starring in it. I didn't know Biel was the leading lady. Had I known I wouldn't have even bothered watching it. A disappointment. Butler is really great, Jessica Biel is dull and unbelievable. I really don't get why people like her. Everyone knows this girl can't act. All her movies lose money. Sure she looks good sometimes, mostly looks like a half man/half women, I thought she was a man doing the women thing.. seriously. Butler on the other had is typical butler. Handsome and believable.. I really enjoyed his role and he looked GREAT!! Would like to have seen Anne Hathoway in this one - a true talent!
Great cast. Heartfelt movie. Great one for a Friday night.
This was one of the most boring movies I have ever seen, and this is coming from someone who adores ( and has a high tolerance for) chick flicks. The movie goes nowhere and the acting is terrible. So terrible in fact, that it made me skip the angst-ridden scenes out of mortification for the actors trying to act them out. Tragically, stellar actresses ( Uma Therman, Catherine Zeta Jones etc) are wasted on superficial, lazy characters who serve only to make Gerard Butler look cool. The only saving grace is the kid, whose cuteness rises above the banality. But honestly, even that cannot push the film above the below average mark. Don't waste your time watching this unless you are a very, very, very big fan of Gerard Butler.
The story line was messy at best but it was still your standard Rom Com movie. Some gaps in the plot and shaky acting but still somewhat enjoyable for what it is
I found this movie entertaining, and I particularly liked George, especially when he was with his son. I also liked Iqbal Theba as the wacko landlord who was suspicious of George and wanted his rent. While I didn't care that much for the naughty humor of Uma Thurman and Catherine Zeta-Jones, or the quirky character played by Judy Greer, they were fun. This movie didn't really work as a romantic comedy because there was no couple to root for, or as a family comedy because it was too naughty. But Jessica Biel did a good job, even if she never made me like her, wasn't pretty, and if I never found myself wanting her and George to get together. The potential for a Stacie-George relationship never even occurred to me until late in the movie. Still, I enjoyed it. Sort of.
