A bemusing and satirical take on suspense and horror in the age of fleeting fame for internet influencers, Clickbait delivers a just right to the bite of Toot Strudel comfort food with theme and character archetypes that are lucid and accessible, yet with with a variety of flavors for the viewer to choose from, starring Colby Stewart, Brandi Aguilar, and Seth Chatfield. Directed with less trauma inducing tropes than Troma by Sophia Cacciola and Michael J. Epstein, Clickbait is light and easily filling treat for the genre.
I love this film. It is independent and unique. The performances are campy and fun. But it is hardly fluff. The film delves into examining internet celebrity phenomena in an innovative and awesome way. I highly recommend!
Cool movie! I dug it. You might too. It is funny and has some good horror sequences as well. Poop!
Horror comedy is not a genre I delve into very deeply, but Clickbait has given me a reason to start. Unlike some of the more mainstream films in this genre, Clickbait offers a unique and entertaining storyline with a deep message about millennial culture and its dangerous obsession with fame. Not to mention Epstein and Cacciola have a knack for capturing artistic details that put their films in a whole other category.
With a micro budget, the filmmakers successfully make an entertaining and endearing genre entry not easily pigeonholed.
Clickbait is a very clever look at fame culture, but in a different light than most similar movies. It's not an indictment of the people caught up in it, but rather the society that forces them to participate in order to be successful. I saw a Q&A where the directors talked about how the whole movie is intended to get the viewer to reflect on their own choices about how they consume on the internet. That's an important message. And Toot Strudels are funny as hell!
Clickbait is a searing satire of social media narcissism and the lengths people will go to promote their brand. Terrific horror elements mixed in with the comedy make it a fun ride for horror fans. But the true horror is that this may not be that far from the true world we live in today.
A cool and fun satirical film by talented, veteran indie filmmakers!
