A quirky comedy. Great acting, original story, and lots of laughs. Thanks
This movie is a leftist caricature of middle America. It paints the main adult character as a selfish, frigid, racist, over-achiever. I've never known a midwesterner like that. It depicts the farming community as stupid and fat. Farmers are some of the hardest working people I've ever known. Modern farmers use high-tech, satellite-enabled machinery. They're not stupid. The movie uses racist slurs against white people, calling them "crackers," "rednecks," and saying "all white people are weird." The movie also makes fun of mentally handicapped citizens, as well as those who help them. It depicts home-schoolers and Christians as ignorant and stupid. Most of the characters with faith and family values are made out to by hypocrites who only look out for themselves, while the chain-smoking, family-wrecking * is made out to be a hero . . . Even though she sexually exploits an under-age teenager. If you like Harvey Weinstein produced movies, this one's for you.
Like some reviewers, I saw the description of this movie in 2021, and thought, "what?" It only too 15 minutes to recognize the "allstar cast" and the highly unexpected plot twists. Please don't watch if you truly consider the Iowa State Butter Sculpture Contest to be a family affair. Then again, maybe you should, assuming you are of age.
