The Chef

The story deals with the importance of family relationships, bonds and belief and it is portrayed brilliantly through Rajesh khanna as a chef who wanders around where there are broken families taking role of a repairer.....At some point of the movie the audience become suspicious on Rajesh Khanna but at the end he clarifies everything and leaves a drop of tear in the audience's eyes.....

The remarkable imaginative profundity of Hirishda to poignantly portray basic moral values which circumvent a whole facet of mundane matters and temperamental grudges has always been the hallmark of this great Bollywood director of the yore. His characterization of different roles in a sublimely moving fashion was the bedrock of his cinematic genius that led him to craft simple, low budget, non-vulgar movies while posting box office records. His candid and evocative imagination never felt short/handicapped or at any loss while filming landmark movies like Anand, Abhiman and Bawarchi which are devoid of any obscene depiction which is considered vital for box office success by directors like Raj Kapoor. It is also pertinent to mention that Rajesh Khanna in the lead role but without a heroine like in Anand (also directed by Hirishda) shall always be remembered for his versatile, soft and morally strong depiction that should not be short of any words. Seeing is indeed believing .......

It's a simple family drama with the touch of little humor and comedy. Presented a social family message to everyone which is a good learn for us. Diverted the whole theme from the beginning and end up with a nice tweak. Simple and natural acting by everyone. Don't expect anything great from it. It's a good time pass movie with various element.

Hrishi da could weave colorful, simple story for common man. His cinema walked a tight balance betn simplicity, commerce, daily stories. Hats off to Dada for giving us Rajesh Khanna in his career best performance (second only to Anand, again Hrishi da's). Soothing music, brilliant actors, engaging dialogues can only produce this masterpiece: Bawarchi. Rest in Peace, Hrishi da.

This was a simple film with some very nice moments. I did have some complaints though. There are some over-the-top moments and some parts seemed a little too redundant. There are some scenes which are a little too sweet and become difficult to relate to. Now coming to the positives, this was a feel-good film with nice performances. I specifically liked the supporting cast more than the leads. They were very believable and I enjoyed their performances a lot. Rajesh Khanna does justice to his role, although I found it difficult to relate to his character, which had only positive shades. That seemed far from reality and I didn't particularly enjoy that part. But the other characters were more relatable for sure. Jaya Bachchan was a nice addition to the cast. What I enjoyed the most was the fact that this movie was so natural and talked about dysfunctional families so well. This was quite entertaining.

Baawarchi is a classic from Hrishida. It is shot almost entirely in a single household set. All the characters are etched beautifully with a nice little suspense in the climax. The music could have been much better given the beautiful lyrics. Jaya Bhaduri,A.K Hangal, Asrani & Paintal have all given good performances. The film talks about the advantages of a joint family & must be watched by today's generation. Now, coming to one very good reason why it must be watched. The performance of Super Star Rajesh Khanna. His portrayal is absolutely brilliant. He makes his appearance a good 15 minutes after the film starts, but right till the end, he keeps you enthralled. His charm & style proves why he was & still remains the greatest superstar of Hindi cinema. Rajesh Khanna dared to do films without a heroine (which is unthinkable even today). He had no heroine in Anand & Bawarchi & later on in Shatru. This is a movie which I have watched many times & never felt bored. Rajesh Khanna truly deserved a national award for this performance but then awards are not always given on merit. One of the top 10 films of Hindi Cinema.

Bawarchi is a gem of a movie that conveys a lot without actually saying much. Hrishikesh Mukherjee is the real Bawarchi (Chef) here. He selects the right recipe (the story), brings the right ingredients (actors and technicians), adds the right spices (music, drama and a O'Henry-esqe twist) and just lets all of them simmer under his watchful eye. I cant think of a better casting for such a beautiful story. The correct mix of star power of Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Bhaduri (Bachchan) and Amitabh Bachchan (as the sutradhaar or the narrator) and highly under-rated character actors like A.K. Hangal, Asrani and even Paintal. The story by Tapan Sinha is a timeless classic. It is true even today where the joint-family system may have disintegrated but the sibling fights, day-to-day strife and dependence on domestic help still continue. Gulzar, the master word-smith, weaves his magic in the dialogs (Special mention- 'It's so simple to be happy but so difficult to be simple'). Today, more than ever, we realize and miss such simple movies.

this is probably my most watched film seen it about 28 times and still counting... film's story is simple but has lots of messages in it acting by all the actors is good songs are okay. dialogues are fantabulous ...its so simple to be happy but difficult to be simple also the film has a very nice suspense in it must watch for all the members of you family also the film contains a surprise voice over by big b himself. don't miss this classic
