Ever since Jelangkung and Ada Apa Dengan Cinta hit the big screens, movie producers assumed by creating cheap horror or romantic flicks they are able to create the same hype these two movie did. Some might have achieved this goal however MOST didn't. It has become an uncontrollable plague proving continuously that our nation is able to only produce the world's most horrible films. After I watched Nagabonar 2, I said to myself "Pheeww…" reassured to believe that creativeness and other elements required to produce an actual movie still exists among some of our movie producers. I'm glad to see a flick where social criticisms are beginning to emerge. Deddy Mizwar's performance was brilliant, two thumbs up. How he played his character was truly amazing, I can sense how in some scenes he produced actual intended feelings that was written on the script. Despite of all this I wasn't totally satisfied. Following up on Bima's comment the movie did seem to lose its direction in the middle. Not only that, I'm beginning to feel producers are getting lazy on casting their actors and actresses, I wouldn't say they were lousy; I just didn't feel anything coming from them. This laziness that keeps reoccurring led me to believe that if you're in the entertainment business, it's really not that hard to get a second job as long as it's in the same business…or not. Overall the movie was great, fun for the whole family to watch. I can understand how this movie won many awards, and NOT by comparing it to other Indonesian flicks.

In this sequel to Nagabonar (1986), the now old Nagabonar was asked to live with Bonaga, his foreign educated son, for a while in Jakarta. This was an effort by Bonaga to ask Nagabonar's permission to turn the family palm plantation into a resort. This outraged Nagabonar since the family cemetery was in the plantation. Distraught, he left his son's house and got himself lost in Jakarta. The theme of this movie is refreshing among Indonesian movies which is now consists of cheap horror flicks and teen romance. The script is filled with dialogues that are funny, smart, and satirical without becoming offensive. The problem is the movie seem to have climaxed in the middle, when Nagabonar agreed to Monita's plan. From that point onwards the story seem to lose direction. Overall, it is still good movie and a must see of every Indonesian.
