A bizarre, but heart-warming story. This film could have been dark or raunchy, but it chose, instead, to be sweet and sincere. I chose to own this film.
This movie has had great buzz. I was worried that it would get kind of perverse since it was rated PG-13. It really should be rated G. My kids really liked it. We saw it on DVR yesterday. No unclothed action happens on or off screen. Suffice it to say that to be such a talked about movie there has to be something there. It is set in the upper Midwest (shot in Ontario) and is straight ahead Lutheran country. Religion gets pulled into it in a good non-denominational way. It brings out who we are and more importantly, why we make others important to our lives. While it is funny it is also a tearjerker. Seeing the townspeople really care about something (or someone) as crazy as Bianca is something else. Watch the trailer at the official website to get a good sense of what it is like.
Fantastic movie about the power of loving someone through their healing/growing process, instead of judging them based on outward appearances.
I saw this scrolling through Netflix a few years after it came out. I laughed when I read the description and passed it over. It intrigued me but at the same time weirded me out. Then a friend told me that she watched it and it was a phenomenal movie. I was skeptical but I ended up watching it and she was right! This movie was played out perfectly. I don't think they could have done this any better if they tried. I just watched it again for the first time since then and it still is a great movie. It's a strange concept but it's an amazing story about a lonely and secluded man who finds his way out and the love of his family, friends and whole community. Don't worry, this isn't a pervy film in the slightest. There is minor mention of what a doll like that is intended for, but that's really the extent of it. I highly recommend this movie. It really is a work of art.
