For years, MMA fighters have tried to solve one of the most frustrating problems in modern combat sports: the Dagestani fighting system. Built around relentless pressure, chain wrestling, takedowns, positional control, and suffocating ground-and-pound, the system transformed fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev into two of the most dominant forces the sport has ever seen. Khabib gave the world one of the clearest examples of this dominance when he faced Abel Trujillo. Instead of simply looking for a quick finish, Khabib repeatedly dragged Trujillo back to the ground, eventually recording a staggering 21 takedowns in a single fight. Then came Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, Darrel Horcher, and countless other opponents who discovered just how difficult it was to escape Khabib's pressure. But the story didn't end with Khabib. Islam Makhachev inherited the same foundation and developed it into his own devastating system. Dustin Poirier, Bobby Green, and Drew Dober all tried to keep the fight in their preferred territory. But again and again, Islam found a way to drag them into his world. This is more than a collection of dominant victories. It's a look at why the Dagestani style has become one of the most difficult systems in MMA to solve—and how Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev helped turn it into a global phenomenon. Pressure. Wrestling. Control. No escape. Nobody Could Solve the Dagestani Fighting System... Until They Faced Khabib and Islam #dagestan #mma #ufc #combatsports #khabib #islam
