Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana I — one of the toughest and most controversial nights of Mayweather's unbeaten career. 🥊 On May 3, 2014, Marcos “El Chino” Maidana walked into the MGM Grand as a huge underdog against the undefeated Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Most expected another Mayweather masterclass. Maidana had other ideas. From the opening bell, the Argentine bullied forward, threw punches from ridiculous angles and repeatedly forced one of the greatest defensive fighters in boxing history onto the ropes. And he didn't stop throwing. Maidana threw 858 punches, landing 221 — the most punches any opponent had landed on Mayweather across the 38 Mayweather fights tracked by CompuBox at that point. Mayweather was far more accurate, landing 230 of 426. ESPN After 12 rounds, Mayweather was awarded a majority decision: 117–111 Mayweather 116–112 Mayweather 114–114 Draw Mayweather remained undefeated at 46–0 — but Maidana believed he'd done enough to win, and the fight was competitive enough that Floyd gave him an immediate rematch just four months later.
