Canelo vs Berlanga: How Canelo Controlled the Fight Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga was a 12-round championship fight defined by timing, pressure, and the difference between throwing punches and landing the right ones. On September 14, 2024, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Canelo defended his unified super-middleweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over the previously unbeaten Edgar Berlanga. This boxing documentary breaks down the fight beyond the headline result. We examine the third-round left hook that dropped Berlanga, Canelo's patient approach to distance, the body attack that helped shape the contest, and the defensive decisions that made it difficult for Berlanga to build sustained momentum. Berlanga came to the ring with an unbeaten record and serious punching power. Canelo brought championship experience, compact combinations, and an ability to make opponents pay when they entered range. The fight became a study in timing and ring position: how a fighter can stay dangerous while still losing the tactical battle. The official judges scored the bout 118–109, 118–109, and 117–110 for Canelo Alvarez, who retained his WBA, WBC, and WBO super-middleweight titles. Berlanga was knocked down in the third round but recovered and fought through all 12 rounds. This video explores the decisive moments, the tactical details, and the broader meaning of a championship performance that did not require a knockout to establish control.
