sorry i did not see raging bull or mean streets. that's the 9th de niro movie i have seen and his acting ability had never impressed me more in any of his movies. in the beginning moments of the movie it was a typical performance from him, nothing special but especially after he met wesley snipes he begins to show his act which made this movie very special for me

I have to say that this is the worst baseball film ever.some people will say rookie of the year is the worst baseball film, but at least that had it's cute moments.I thought the scene where wesley snipes had to hit a homerun or else his son would be killed was bogus, and having rain fall down at that moment also unrealistic.I thought the scene whre del toro was killed in that shower was ridiciolous. At the time the san francisco giants had the worst record in 96 and they probablly made the film so movie fans would become san francisco giants fans and buy merchandise.

I saw The Fan after seeing Traffic and The Fan made me understand why Benicio del Toro won so many awards. Del Toro's body language, facial expressions, voice, and accent are so different that you can barely tell it's him. He is only in a fraction of the movie, but his immersion into his character is absolutely brilliant. (De Niro's and Snipe's performances were solid, as expected.)

It is an oddball movie for sure; I don't care much for the sport itself but the shots seemed legit enough and the drama was there. It was odd watching this one, DeNiro seemed a little off his game, and the plot is just crazy. The acting overall way pretty good, but nothing amazing. Overall though it was watchable and something slightly different was offered here. In a way it was a very mild and tepid version of 'Falling Down', maybe. 6/10 above average thriller mixed with a sports themed motif.

This movie is terrible, terrible in a good way. It has an interesting plot and DeNiro is just hilarious as the obsessive, insane fan. His mannerisms and the things he says are outright hilarious. This is a movie to put on for nostalgia purposes and for a good laugh. DON'T LISTEN TO EM, BOBBY!

DeNiro gives an okay, but one-note performance as a dedicated baseball fan who, as a result of his fixation on Bobby Rayburn (#11), loses his job and family. Other than to show that he has a bad temper, I don't see how they are relevant to the movie. I think too much time is spent on the scenes at home, on the job, and on the baseball game itself. And DeNiro's acting just didn't seem genuine at all. In most movies about people who go from obsessing to stalking, this line is crossed at about halfway through the movie. But here, it doesn't happen until almost the very end, which is too little too late. Also, how could the Benicio Del Toro have really been killed if this was only seen in Renard's mind? Or did I miss something? It's not a bad movie, but it could have been more. ** out of ****

From a baseball fan's point of view, there are so many things wrong with this movie. I don't want to spoil the movie, but, everything from home/road uniforms to the ballpark to (possible spoil) the fact that Primo was in a hotel sauna when he was killed instead of the team's sauna. I like the plot, but the script is terrible. De Niro should be ashamed of himself for accepting this role.

This is one of the all time great suspense thrillers ever. De Niro and Snipes are a great combination. Nobody plays the role of an obsessive psychopath like Robert De Niro. Also, Snipes works perfectly as the caulky ball player. All in all this is a great film that will leave you on the edge of your seat until the surprising ending.
