Species III

This is long drawn out boring softcore *. There is no budget that is apparent. There are some nice nudity to be seen but the production value is so low that it is barely worth watching. Unimaginative, dull and even more stupid than the second film. The only survivor from damnation in this trilogy is the amazing first one.

After the events of Species II, Eve delivers an offspring in the ambulance. Dr. Abbot (Robert Knepper) escapes with the baby. He's an university professor looking to win awards for the alien DNA. He keeps the alien home who quickly grows up to be Sara (Sunny Mabrey). Species II is horrible. Following directly after those events is a mistake. Is this better than II? Possibly, but not enough to matter. The stink of II infects this movie right from the start. It's a mess that no writer can recover from. It needs to set a distance away from II in almost a reboot. The audience shouldn't need to watch the horrible II before understanding what the hell is going on. Knepper is a good creepy guy and Mabrey is hot. Otherwise, this franchise is done until they decide to reboot it.

I have no idea why this receives so few stars. This is really a very good movie, far better than the second of the series. What is wrong with it? Well, it does go after the goriness of the "Species" life-cycle more shamelessly and explicitly than does the first. And a few of the effects shots are distinctly second-rate in comparison to the first movie. Of course, they are showing more of the alien in this one, and doing so with less budget. Having said that, the story here is perfectly good and interesting, and the girls playing aliens look great (when they aren't um... going alien). What more could you really ask from a sequel?

Yes I agree this movie was not genius, however from a person who does not tear movies apart to often I have to say it was a good movie. It does not have the flair of the original movie but in my opinion is a lot better than the second. I don't think the movie was intended to be a blockbuster, but more a film for people who enjoyed the first 2 movies. I didn't even see a trailer for this movie anywhere, didn't know it existed until I saw it in the video store for rental. I think it was made for more of like a cult following. Yes there are a lot of unanswered questions but who cares. The movie was fun, with a lot of action and a lot of gratuitous nudity for those that like it. I just wish Nastasha Henstridge had more of a role.

All typical sci-fi B-movie elements make enough appearances in this third installment of 'Species'. It's got lots of creepy alien gore, gorgeous chicks who kick male ass, abundant nudity and the twitch of alien-human sexual tension. I risk to say that the story is actually better than the crap of Species II... interesting enough to keep the viewer in his seat till the end. Otherwise as usual, acting is horrible, script likewise. They used some old footage of Natasha Henstridge as well. But the role of Sara could go to a more physically attractive actress than Sunny Mabrey... though it is my personal opinion.
