Onosato cried after winning the Aki basho 2026, and those tears said more than any interview could. In this video, we break down how Japan's yokozuna won the Emperor's Cup at the Ryogoku Kokugikan, and why the moment hit everyone so hard. First, we trace the Onosato injury that derailed his year: a left shoulder injury at the November 2025 Kyushu tournament, then a midway withdrawal in March 2026 and a full absence in May. Then comes the Autumn basho 2026 itself. He raced out to an 11-1 record with a two-win cushion, but losses to Kirishima and Kotozakura left him tied with Aonishiki. That set up a winner-take-all Onosato vs Aonishiki bout for his sixth career yusho, plus a look at his stablemaster Nishonoseki, the former Kisenosato, whose own tears are part of yokozuna lore. This Onosato comeback is about more than one sumo championship. It's about what the rope asks of the man wearing it. On SumoSpirit Channel, we go past the highlights to the story behind them. If watching Onosato look up at the ceiling of the Kokugikan and break down got to you too, hit like and subscribe so you're here when Aonishiki makes his own run at yokozuna.
