House of the Dragon Season 3 was stretched Out and Off the Rails. Season 3 delivers entertaining spectacle but completely abandons the source material, resulting in a stretched-out season that somehow rushes and drags at the same time. Despite some visually cool action, the season suffers from illogical character arcs, a lack of emotional stakes, and bizarre plotting. This week, Steven and Dan break down this massive waste of potential. We discuss Aegon being severely underutilized despite a show-carrying performance, Rhaenyra's nearly two hours of screen time dedicated to a bizarre messiah complex, and Helaena’s suddenly poorly set-up window jump. We also tear into Daemon's pointless Gold Cloak side-quest, Alicent's total character assassination and bizarre love triangle with Aemond, Criston Cole's completely unceremonious death in the mud, and the shockingly poor pacing that stalled out every storyline just to get to the Battle of Tumbleton.
