On March 1, 2025, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York hosted a high-stakes super lightweight showdown between two of the most exciting young American fighters—Gary Antuanne “The Last” Russell and Jose “El Rayo” Valenzuela. With the WBA Super Lightweight World Title on the line, this co-main event of the “Tank vs. Roach” card delivered action, pressure, and a defining moment for Russell's career. Russell came out fast and fierce, showcasing his signature volume punching and relentless forward momentum. From the opening bell, he dictated the pace, out-landing Valenzuela and cutting off the ring with skill and timing. Valenzuela had his moments—especially in the middle rounds—but Russell’s composure, accuracy, and conditioning told the story. By the championship rounds, Valenzuela was visibly fatigued, and Russell continued to pile on the pressure. After 12 dominant rounds, the judges scored it 120–108, 119–109, and 119–109, all in favor of Russell. He became the new WBA Super Lightweight Champion, putting the 140-lb division on notice. 📍 Date: March 1, 2025 📍 Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY 🏆 Title: WBA Super Lightweight Championship 🔥 Relive a star-making performance—Gary Antuanne Russell's rise to championship glory!
