Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is a tactical first-person shooter video game developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Red Storm and Ubisoft, originally released in August 1998. The game follows John Clark, a former CIA operative who forms a secret international counterterrorist organization called Rainbow. The organization consists of elite soldiers from NATO countries, as well as intelligence and technology experts. Clark serves as the commander of Rainbow, codenamed "Rainbow Six", and his son-in-law Domingo "Ding" Chavez leads one of the two operational teams. Rainbow is deployed to various locations around the world to handle terrorist incidents, such as a bank robbery in Switzerland, a hostage situation in Austria, and an attack on an amusement park in Spain. They discover that these seemingly random attacks are part of a larger conspiracy orchestrated by a radical environmentalist group called Horizon Corporation, which plans to unleash a deadly virus called Shiva on the human population, leaving only a few chosen survivors to rebuild civilization. Rainbow manages to infiltrate Horizon's headquarters in Brazil and stop their plan. They also learn that Horizon has been secretly funded by former KGB agents who wanted to destabilize the world order and create chaos. Rainbow kills most of the Horizon members and their backers, and destroys their facilities and weapons. Clark and Chavez also rescue Clark's wife and daughter, who were kidnapped by Horizon as leverage. The novel ends with Rainbow celebrating their victory and preparing for future missions.
