Two decades after the album's critically acclaimed release, hip-hop artist Nas teamed up with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., to stage a symphonic rendition of "Illmatic," one of the most revered albums in hip-hop history. The new concert film Great Performances - Nas Live From the Kennedy Center: Classical Hip-Hop captures the energy and nostalgia of this collaborative performance.

After 5 minutes of this I had to turn it off. How can this monstrosity even be allowed to have taken place, let alone filmed is beyond me. Why cannot they leave the classics alone. What the great composers must be thinking of what these people have been done to their art. If you want to make what is a vile disgusting racket about violence, drugs, gangs, sexual abuse etc, then you do it in your own studios and play it on your radio stations to your target audience. How dare you even contemplate thinking about involving this noise with classical masterpieces. With that said with what this country has turned into, I suppose it will be nominated for Oscars and other pathetic award ceremonies. I hope this garbage is actually banned from cinema and streaming sites. Create your own material and leave the classics alone.
The Kennedy Center needs to keep their standards high. To call this mashup atrocious would be an understatement of epic proportions. What next Nas at Ka Scala? Even the orchestra looked bored and unengaged. Not recommended at all.
As a classically trained musician (Opera - mezzo soprano) and as an enthusiast of the culture ( hip hop /rap/ jazz/blues) I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this respectful and spectacular presentation of Nas performing at The Kennedey Center. BRAVO!!!! Kennedy Center, Nasir Jones Paula Jones Bowen
As an old school hip hop love who grew up break dancing and writing Graff who would have ever imagined Illmatic with an amazing orchestra recreating some of the illest records ever, so dope seeing Nas flowing not missing a beat at the Kennedy Center, epic!!
I loved this concert so very much! The intervals of his bio gave the audience a much needed glimpse of how it all started for him. Nas was the perfect collaboration wit the National Symphony Orchestra as I am certain the orchestra was not familiar with Nas or the importance of our genra music "hip hop". I'm certain they were totally surprised to hear of this collaboration. Sadly, they weren't aware of the magnificent music and style of hip hop brings to the Arts. Well they know now!! Nas is Hip Hop and they should be honored to have performed with him.. Would love to see this at 'Carnegie Hall' in NYC.
