This film is such a blatant Tarantino ripoff it almost works as an (unintentional) comedy. An instant drinking game classic, simple take a drink whenever the flick plagarises Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs. The reason I found it so laughably bad is because it takes itself so seriously. The untalented cretins who worked on this film obviously thought they were making a powerful crime thriller. It doesn't involve, it doesn't entertain and it certainly doesn't shock. It bites. Hard. See it with a 6 pack, have a few laughs, talk back to the screen and you might get your 99 cent rental value out of it. Woeful.
Brilliant first scene and worth it just for introducing me to the great dream pop band Luna
Many of us think we can hide from our past. This movie takes that one step further and throws it in our face. I sat in aw as this movie unfolds with a edgy but funny beginning and then drops us into the lap of our hero or trying to be hero "Casey Wells" played by "Thomas Jane "I can't believe this was Skip Woods first directing job. He had a great cast to work with. The story of a nice guy that cleaned up his act to only be thrown back in the pot for another round with his evil past. The movie is very edgy and many guys will like this more than the ladies but some women find it very interesting. Thomas Jane does an incredible job with the lovely Paulina Porizkova and talented Aaron Eckhart. Michael Jeter as Dr. Jarvis is great. Skip does a great job working with this cast and the climax is worth every minute of the movie. If you don't mind your violence with a little sex thrown in I high recommend you check it out.
This film had a low budget and made just above the budget for a film that should have blown away Pulp Fiction. Great cast with Thomas Jane included.Jane has shown he can act and really should have worked with the producers to make it better.Jane has high respect among producers. This is typical money selfishness.
Is Thursday an original film? Heck no, but it is a lot of fun! I just caught this buried on the movie channels one night and it was an enjoyable flick. I was expecting much but what I got was some interesting scenes (I really liked the first seen at the convenience store), some amusing stories as told by the characters and a little bit of action thrown in the mix as well. Some good performances from young actors, Paulina Porizkova was good and I was particularly impressed with Aaron Eckhart (who has gone on to impress me further in Yours Friends and Neighbours' and Erin Brokovich'). So if you want 90 minutes of easy going fun go ahead and check out Thursday'.
Boy does Mr Tarantino have a lot to answer for! I've just finished watching this dire cash-in and want my money back...oops...It was a free video. I'll concede that Thursday was never boring but it was just sooooooo badly written and the attempts at hip QT type dialogue were embarrassingly funny. I couldn't care less about the fates of any of the characters and the violence was never as jarring as it should've been. It was just too calculated, any effect was negated by its gratuitousness. I think the director showed promise given the material and hope he can get his hands on something of substance and make a film worth watching.
Sex, drugs, violence all tied up into a most entertaining movie. Paulina is gorgeous, but I couldn't stop staring at her less than attractive bosoms. Guess I should give her points for leaving them "au natural". The flashback of the drug deal that turned bad was a riot! Had seen it twice & didn't recognize James LeGros until I saw his name in the cast & figured it out the 3rd time. Don't feel guilty for enjoying it. Just be glad you don't have a past that might rear it's ugly head. Or do you?
If Roger Ebert hadn't been so harsh about "Thursday," maybe I wouldn't have cared. However, when he wrote that the film "really crossed the line" into offensiveness, my curiosity was naturally aroused. Unfortunately, not only is this film racist, but it's downright boring as well. It's easy enough to be bothered by the deaths of all the blacks and the east Indian in the first hour, but the movie only does this for desperate shock value. Also obviously, this wants to be a "Pulp Fiction"-style flick, but at least Tarantino lets it grow out of the story, rather than just for cheap shock effect, as this movie does. Bottom line: This movie sucks.
