The match was introduced as Ken Shamrock's "speciality" bout, and the Lion's Den was first introduced as a way for Owen Hart to step into Shamrock's turf after Shamrock had competed in the Hart Dungeon match at WWF Fully Loaded in 1998. The Lion'd Den had similar characteristics to a UFC octagon, but really, thats where the similarities ended. When Shamrock left the WWF, the unique Lion's Den matches left with him.. and the closest the WWE has ever came to producing these style of matches again was with their "Fight Pit" bouts. This video takes a look at every WWF Lions Den match that took place.
