source: The Star Wars Holiday Special
i sought this 'movie' out...i downloaded it...i can blame no one... and for some reason, i just cant seem to stop crying... this was the most painful experience i have had since getting beat up by my sister on the school bus in 4th grade... but hey, it is still Star Wars, and now, Jar Jar doesnt seem so bad...
I remember seeing Star Wars in the theater, I was FIRST of all my friends. I was 11 at the time, which meant I was ahead of the curve. So I became a Star Wars nut. It was OK then, you weren't considered a nerd. Had the cation figures, the trading cards, books, you name it I had it. Then came the "Star Wars Holiday Special" Got all excited sat down with my snacks (it was chips & soda night) and watched the lamest piece of junk I ever saw. Even at 11 years-old I knew this was an embarrassment. My friends and I never spoke of the St*r W*rs Holiday special, couldn't believe what terrible show came from such a classic movie. I know there is a bootleg copy floating around out there. I have no interest seeing it.
OK let me clarify that summary line.. As a child of 7 starving for ANYTHING Star Wars, I thought it was awesome! As an adult of 44 lucky enough to possess a copy, I still like it for what it is. It's a memory. It's a memory of a simpler time. It's a memory of the love I had for what I still consider to be the greatest movie ever made! It's a memory of longing for the next film to release. It's a memory of seeing the original Star Wars in the theater. Also watching it reminds me of the attraction pre-shows at Disney World. It just brings back so much. Though it is corny and cheesy, and low budget, I love it! I always will. I wish I had a better copy.
"The Star Wars Holiday Special" from 1978 which aired on "CBS" was not seen much and is often spoken about in a bad manner. True after watching the story did not entertain with much action or suspense still if your a fan of "Star Wars" check out this classic somewhat hidden gem(try you tube or Ebay). The story mainly is that of Han Solo and Chewbacca trying to find the way back home for the wookiee to his homeland of Kashyyk to be with his family on Life Day! The sounds and growls of the wookiee clan is okay! Also look for Bea Arthur and Art Carney and the visit to the Cantina with creatures and music is all right. Most revealing is the animated cartoon which gave a preview of Boba Fett. Not much still a cult little hidden gem for sci-fi and "Star Wars" buffs.
'Star Wars: Holiday Special' was clearly well ahead of its time. It's true that when I first saw this bizarre "film", I winced and gagged at the cheap sets, flimsy plot, and veiled eroticism. But now, looking back forty years, and having seen 'The Last Jedi'-an horrifically insulting and insipid "film", produced by a supposedly woke woman, and financed by once-family-favorite Disney no less-I can see the SWHS for the artful masterpiece that it truly is: a literal variety offering, which subverted expectations long before we really knew what to expect. Happy Life Day to all.
Thank god for rifftrax ... they have turned the worst thing that ever went thru Lucas' brain into something that can be enjoyed ... uhh ... okay not really enjoyed, but if you drink enough alcohol and watch it with someone who loves you, this craptacular abortion does have some entertaining qualities ... like HARVEY KORMAN and Bea Arthur and Art Carney all competing to see who can do the most damage to their legacy. Marvel at the great music from Jefferson Airplane ... ummm, I mean Starship. And by "great" I mean something the Bay City Rollers would make fun of. Before watching this ludovico experiment it is best to remember that while Lucas made star wars and indiana jones, he also made THX, howard the duck and this crime against the viewing public, that should only exist in a galaxy far far away.
This is not a movie. It is a series of scenes that have nothing to do with each other. There is no plot or 3 act structure, it's just thing happening slowly, even thought scene is only 5-10 minutes long each frame feels like 10 hours. Let's start at the beginning. So Chewy has to get home for Life Day, but him and Han are in the middle of a chase. Chewy's family is worried about him. Then the Empire realizes that Chewbacca has a family on Kashyyk and they search his family's home. Chewbacca and Han show up and save the day and attend Life Day. But.......... The Movie is 2 Hours long! so there's and hour and 45 minutes of filler! And at 1 point they just play a cartoon for no reason! This is the worst movie I've ever seen! And I've seen Baby Geniuses! If I could I'd give this movie -900000000000000/10
As a brazilian i watched and found it funny and weird. one of the 10/10 ratings of this item.
You just have to see it...it is so bizarre and... hilarious....one of the greatest experimental films and comedies ever made....
