Director Emilio Estevez did a superb job of balancing many societal issues, homelessness, societal loneliness, the importance of libraries, all while interjecting humor & surprises. It captures reality and gives you different perspectives of homelessness. Great film.

This film tells the story of a group of homeless people who refuses to leave the public library during a cold spell. The story of fantastic, as it captivates and engages me throughout. It is human, it is pure compassion, and it exposes the horrifying bureaucracy of the authorities. To me, or to the average citizen, letting homeless people stay in a warm place seems like the right thing to do. The story speaks to the collective humanity and morality, thereby making the film very effective. The film really deserves to be seen.

That moment when Taylor Schilling says "I'll see you in jail" Haha Didn't help I couldn't shake seeing her as Piper Chapman the whole film. The Public has quite the impressive cast. It's a strange little film though. I enjoyed it, but something prevented it from being amazing, or something I'd be talking about in years to come. It highlights some really important issues plaguing society. I felt the film had a lot of heart and was never condescending to any group of society. There were a lot of great understated performances in this. The 2 hour runtime seemed to go by quickly for me. I could relate to many aspects of library life that were depicted. Many of the characters felt familiar. The film just said what it had to say about the importance of libraries and the plight of the homeless, and then it just seemed to end. Worthwhile to check out if you're into libraries, Emilio Estevez or issues plaguing society.

I haven't been moved by a movie this deep in a long time... can't say anything negative about it...this is a Big Positive...Congrats to Steves...this is an inspiration.

This was a very, very well done movie. Well written, very well-acted, beautifully staged, and a really powerful statement about modern-day America, the homeless situation which is completely out of control, yet is being ignored and is totally misunderstood. One third of all homeless in the US have full time jobs. Few get it. It is at least as much about soaring housing costs, as it is about other causes. This was also a severe indictment of the American judicial system, the completely out of control and highly militarized American police departments, and the unwillingness of society to tackle the growing epidemic of homelessness. It continues to get swept under the rug yet it is right in everyone's faces, if you're in a major metropolitan area. I'm not sure why Estevez is not doing more work, he is a real talent.

The whole movie centers on it being incredibly cold outside, so cold that the homeless are freezing to death. But in every scene filmed outside, when people speak, we can't see their breathe. It's so obvious that it wasn't cold out, at all. Otherwise, highly original story and well acted.

I laughed heartily numerous times. The snippets of questions. "What's it like to read all day?" They tried hard to show the realism & grit of urban public libraries. For the most part they get it right.

Gripping, Funny, Real, Right outside your door, emotional, and makes you think. GO SEE THIS and tell others. Michael K Williams definitely deserves an award! Bravo Emilio for making this movie.

The previews didn't do this movie justice. Wow. There were some really hilarious moments. The timing and delivery of this cast's lines--particularly the homeless group--were great. I was concerned it would be a formulaic social justice movie, but there were some unexpected twists and it was entertaining. Best was seeing some of my favorite, familiar talent. It was great to see Michael K. Williams (aka Chalky White from Boardwalk Empire)--not sure I'd seen him in anything since that and he was great. I can't believe we haven't seen him in more since BE. And, always love Jeffrey Wright. In all, the casting was great for this movie. I would have liked to see more of an ending--not that it wasn't clever and surprising as it was. But I was hoping for more of a finish.
