The Big Lebowski

I'd been nagged by friends and colleagues for years to watch this movie, face-palms all around - they couldn't believe I hadn't seen one of the best movies of all time. I have a 30min rule for movies, if it's rubbish I turn it off to avoid wasting my life on a bad movie. As this one came with such a high regard, I gave it a full hour and then was forced to turned it off. Don't ask me how it ended, it was so dull and boring I really don't care. It was slow, I found myself falling asleep and I've never before watched a comedy with no laughs. Reading the other reviews, I wonder if we were watching the same movie. I watched "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" earlier this year just for fun as it had such poor reviews and ratings. Sadly I enjoyed it more than this "classic". Whoever invented the "dark comedy" genre should be put against a wall and shot.

I have no idea what the point of this movie was, but for some reason it was a good time anyway. An all star cast, a strange storyline, and lots of John Goodman doing what he does best.

Saying this film is overrated is an understatement. Why are some ludicrous films rated so highly? One might wonder if most of the viewership is amateur film goers or just stoned. Films like Forest Gump, The Wolf of Wall Street, Schindler's list or even art house ones like Birdman are great films. But The Big Lebowski is a Big Disappointment. It is a disjointed and abhorrent mess, sorry I'm using the word abhorrent here which might too big a word for most of the big raters of this film. I'll use simpler language for those who loved it, it stinks. This film made no sense and has to be one of the biggest disappointments of cinema. What an odd bunch of people it would take to make such a mess. It takes an even bigger odd bunch of people to love this film, write rave reviews and praise it. People obviously get a kick out of explaining something that isn't there. A spade isn't a spade to them.

Film very messed up, very strange and very beautiful where the protagonist literally does nothing but in any case all the events of the story "invest" him without any mercy. The film ranges between different genres and generally follows very well.
