This really is the rom-com version of painting by numbers...made by people who clearly can't count. Terrible script, bad acting (Uma is the main culprit and Colin Firth sleepwalks his way through it)...completely unrealistic characters.I found myself wondering how on earth this movie got the green light. It's got straight to DVD written all over it. I couldn't believe the amount of quality actors who were in this. WHY - they must have known it was going to be a dog? I know rom-coms are generally fluff by their nature, but this is rock bottom. If you like your movies to have any resemblance to how people actually behave in real life this will drive you insane. Not funny and not romantic. My cat could have penned a better script.
A grown man snuck into a teenage boys window at night in this movie. I'm not counting it as a spoiler. Also- lame run of the mill rom com. Not original at all. However I love Colin Firth.
Starting off with a strong cast first impression- There is hope for this movie The cast is amazing ahhh the chemistry between them however is non existent Cut away shots of life in the big city that cuts back to poor comedic moments of situations that would be realistically truly terrifying, man what were the editors having to work with sucks Oh what? We have reached the pivotal sex scene and I don't even know what has happened in the prior 60 mins...I may have lost interest Ahhh now the conflict between the main characters Only 22 mins left I can do it Bleuch ending with such bad script, ooop false ending oh god the actual ending is way way worse Clearly drinking water in a champagne glas...just use a normal glass The only good character is Mr Darcy...i mean Colin Firth he does romantic perfectly even when acting across from not good romantic actors My sympathy goes out to all except the producers who clearly have no idea.
This Rom-Com has one or two actually funny moments, but in the end is a rather cynical movie disguised as a romantic comedy. Most of the time it tries too hard to be charming. It fails to do so because of its rather uncharismatic characters. The only charismatic character is Colin Firth's Richard who is mature, patient, and understanding. The message that the writers try to convey about not being perfect is dominated by the message that being a boorish jerk and butting into other people's lives (both main characters do this) results in a happen ending and love. Worse, that a good, true, and honorable man doesn't get the woman he loves, and is completely marginalized, considered boring and stupid, even my the main female character's father.
The movie has good bones. Unusually idea which is refreshing compared to the same old run of the mill rom coms but every scene is too rushed , no time to get to know each character. Great cast ,good acting and had great potential to be a real fun movie . They should've took their time is all I'm saying.
What a disappointment. Contrived drivel interspersed with forced chemistry and awkward "sitcom"-like moments made this movie almost unwatchable. The only reason I gave it more than one star is because I'm such a huge fan of so many people in this movie: Uma Thurman, Colin Firth, Jeffery Dean Morgan, Isabella Rosselini, Sam Shepherd. You would think that any movie boasting such stars would be a fun romp, at the very least. But even this tremendously talented cast couldn't save the truly ridiculous script. It's a retread of a plot line seen in so many rom-coms, but done so much worse than others of the same ilk, and there was nothing fun about it. If you're thinking of spending 90 minutes watch a movie, don't waste your time on this one.
I am just a softy I guess, but my daughter & I Loved this movie. I am unsure of why others did not give good reviews unless they do not prefer this (TYPE) of CHICK FLICK. If that is the case then you should not be viewing it, otherwise it is a MUST WATCH. The only thing I could have done without is the small amount of foul language. I will be recommending it to my friends and family. The main reason I chose this for a weekend movie night was because of Jeffrey Morgan. After seeing him in PS I LOVE YOU I would be interested in any movie he was in unless it is just entirely TOO provocative. He is so sweet in everything I have watched him in and I LOVE the accent. Girls add this one to your list of MUST watch and enjoy the romance.
