Right, well as I sat down to watch the 2021 movie "Strings" from writer and director Greggory Bono Santizo, I was under the impression that it was a horror movie, as it was listed as 'horror' here on IMDb. Well, perhaps if you are a preteen and unaccustomed to the horror genre, then "Strings" would classify as actually being a horror movie, I suppose. "Strings" felt like it was a horror movie written by and for a preteen audience. The horror elements in the movie were light, and sort of felt childish at best. So for a life-long horror aficionado like myself, this movie was a swing and a miss. There was just too much generic narrative going on here. And the storyline told in "Strings" was also something that felt like it was aiming at a young audience. It was not a wholesome movie if you are well-accustomed to horror movies and want something deep and profound in a horror movie. Nay, the plot in "Strings" felt very superficial. The acting performances in the movie were adequate. Not really overly convincing performances by the young cast. But then again, if the movie was aiming for a younger audience, I believe the acting performances were sufficient to display a 'horror' movie. Visually then "Strings" was actually not bad. Sure, this wasn't impressive CGI or special effects, but it was actually fair enough special effects for a movie such as what "Strings" turned out to be. While I managed to sit through the entire 84 minutes that "Strings" ran for, I have to say that I wasn't particularly entertained. My rating of "Strings" lands on a very generous four out of ten stars.
