In this film Brian de Palma was reincArnated to Hitchcock. There is a continuously suspense. You must watch it second time to see what you have missed of the first time.

Nicholas Cage stars as a mildly corrupt cop Rick Santoro at a fight where one of the attendees is the Secretary of Defense. His DOD guard is commanded by Kevin Dunne (Gary Sinise). Kevin and Rick happen to be best friends. SoD gets shot and Rick and Kevin have to figure out who did it, and why. Carla Gugino is a mystery woman saying something to the SoD at the time of the shooting and is somehow involved but Rick and Kevin aren't sure how. Outside of the frenzied and amazing 13 minute continuous opening shot that's probably worth rewatching, the rest of the movie is standard thriller fare. Good guys aren't so good, bad guys aren't so bad, twists twist as expected. Cage is over the top, which works, but not always. The other actors are just there, though I did like Sinise in his role. There really wasn't anything I disliked about the movie, but there wasn't much I liked either. 6/10 for me.

Another good film for Nicolas Cage is the 1968 production of "Snake Eyes". It is directed by Brian De Palma. And it is written by Brian De Palma and David Koepp. The cast includes Nicolas Cage, Gary Sinise, John Heard, Carla Gugino, Stan Shaw, Kevin Dunn, Michael Rispoli, Joel Fabiani, Luis Guzman, David Anthony Higgins, Mike Starr, Tamara Tunie, Chip Zen, Michaella Bassey, Paul Joseph Bernardo, Jemard Burks, Mark Camacho, and Desmond Campbell, Jean-Paul Chartrand, Chip Chupka, Deano Clavet, Tara Ann Culp, Kelly Deadmon, Frederick De Grandpre, Adam C. Flores, George Foumiotis, Christina Fulton, Kenneth Glegg, Sebastien Delome, Alain Goudern and Dean Hagopian. The story is that of an Atlantic City cop who solves an international espionage ring during a major hurricane. I gave it 8 stars for it frenetic pace and intrigue. Dale Haufrect

What a great movie! Excellent acting by Cage and Sinise! Great color, great and yet usual camra work, great suspence, and awesome music! I just love those following scenes with Cage and Sinise! As a big Boxing fan I was pleased how the fight in the ring was performed. Snake Eyes is a terrific film that delivers it it all!

The beginning is amazing, one very long continuous camera shot. Then some crime happens and the story falls very simple and weird. The protagonist literraly does nothing in this movie, he just runs and gets beaten by villains. In the end the hostage saves him by accident. Very weird movie to be honest.
