"Safe Men" plays as if you took a nice assortment of Woody Allen comedies and put them through a blender. The Jewish jokes, including a hilarious bar mitzvah will appeal to the ethnic audience, while the outrageous ideas like exploding pants, will appeal to almost everyone. I have never seen Jewish stereotypes portrayed better, in part because of the incredible casting choices. Each character is so interesting, you will wish they each had more screen time. Sure it's ridiculous, but so are "Idiocracy", "Strange Wilderness", and "Office Space". Along with "Safe Men" the common thread between these comedies , is that each one will hold up to multiple viewings. - MERK

This movie is hilarious. A movie about tough guys who aren't tough at all. Every character has a touch of effeminacy that makes the movie such a hysterical parody. My favorite movie of all time. Reminds me of Wes Anderson's "Bottle Rocket".

I rented this movie the other night expecting very little for my $3.78 but I was pleasantly surprised to find a very funny movie. The premise is a classic. The old comic mix up. The funniest moments of the film come from the awkward situation another comedic staple. Like the female lead finding the two male leads attempting to rob her safe and then flirting with her. If your the sort of person who says who would do that then you need to stop watching movies altogether. The movie is in my opinion a good example of the nineties style of conversational comedy that Woody Allen began in the seventies and that Kevin Smith and others continue today. If you liked Bottle Rockets, Rushmore, Mr. Jealousy, or any Whit Stillman movie give this a try

Though this movie was reviewed horribly by most critics, it is a really funny movie. The bulk of the humor in the movie is very subtle. There are a lot of far out situations and gags, but these are really just the vehicle for the quirky characters and the impressive dialog of the movie. That is where the real humor lies and it becomes more and more apparent after multiple viewings. Its definitely a cult classic.

I don't know how or why this movie got made, and more importantly I don't care. The cast led me to believe this unknown title could not go wrong. You have Giamatti, Rockwell, Zahn, Ruffalo! how could you possibly go wrong with a cast like that? Well, I tried to forgive one horrible dialogue sequence after another but by the time Rockwell starts his romantic side-plot I was ready to smash the screen with anything within reach, I can't remember the last time I ever heard such atrocious dialogue. Do not watch this movie, if you know someone who owns this movie, disassociate yourself from this person and any of their acquaintances. You have been warned.

This is NOT a classic in the vain of movies such as "Schindler's List" or "ET". But this movie, pure and simple is a great "cult film" of Jewish humor. If you want to see a young man making his bar mitzvah in a designer sweat suit, hear stories of exploding irregular size pants at a family Rosh Hashannah BBQ, you might enjoy THIS movie! Quirky, fun, weird, full of laughs! That's what you'll find in this little movie. Enjoy!

This film reminds me a bit like Bad Santa.. no real plot, no attempt to do anything great, but the understatement and unpredictable flow of the movie just keeps your attention. Lots of little quirky and unconnected plot moments that make you chuckle. Put it this way, any director that puts the spaghetti in the tub kid from Gummo in a movie has got a sense of humor just slightly twisted enough to be worthy of note. The wide disparity of reviews, mostly either 2 or 10 doesn't surprise me. Some people will get it, some won't.

I'm not getting into the specifics, as many here have written absolutely great comments to detail how extremely incredible this Indy treasure is. Not to mention the astounding cast; Sam Rockwell, Steve Zahn, Paul Giamatti just to name a few. I can watch this over and over again and still laugh out loud. My only question is this: why won't someone for G-d sake put this out on DVD so I can buy it????? (Not a fan of VHS - I want commentary, deleted scenes, interviews, more extras, w-i-d-e-s-c-r-e-e-n, etc., etc., etc.) So if the powers that be read this, Please get off your tuchases (sp?) and get this out on DVD!!!!! Otherwise, thank you for a great movie!!!!!

Any movie that has three of my favorite people in it doesn't need to do a whole lot else right. But this one went ahead and did anyway. This is a small movie with a big plot, great characters and great dialogue. If you dig off-beat, this is for you. In addition to the "Big Three", there is a whole cast of great people, some you know, some you don't.
