So we start out here wiht some blindfolded dude seeing some vision or something. Oh so he is getting paid to tell an old woman or not if he can see ghosts or not. Ghosts of her dead husband. But when woman's son whines about it, he leaves envelope of his payment behind. Well at least he doesn't appear to be a crook. +1 Star for not being a crook. Next he's at the beach, confronted by a writer looking for someone who supposedly can see the dead. He agrees to take her on to his next 'gig'. So some loon wants him to talk to a dead boy. And Girl writer is not freaked out by loon pointing a gun at all??? -1 Star for no reaction to having a gun pulled on dude and girl doesn't react at all LOL, so later on a woman who used his services leaves him his own Island. The son wants to buy it from him but he doesn't want to sell. He's keeping the island!!! The Son threatens to kill him before he'll let him on that Island!! So John, the seer of dead people, he goes to another 'client' and this time he actually is SEEN by a dead person. He tells his writer GF that has never happened before.... Okay so really a lot of scenes towards the end and we get to where the Millionaire Son and Uncle and doing everything they can to wrest this Island away from John. They really don't believe that he can see dead people. John throws a monkey wrench into their plan, however. They try to torture John into signing over the Island. There's not really much that's scary or even interesting. -1 Star for being pretty boring... In the end John has a long talk with Dead people and gets his Island. 4/10
This is a mixture of neo-noir style that houses highly unlikable characters. I thought loudly multiple times "That's awful! She's awful! Why are you doing anything with her?!" But the quirks and harshness pull together for the end moment, subtle and assumed, that breathes a quick moment of hope for the main character, downtrodden by his life, struggling with loss, and abused by so many. The unknown mystery at the heart of the film kept me engrossed even through the harsh nature of the film. If you like oddball and odd films, this brings that to the psychic neo-noir genre.
Over-all this is just a bad film, the script is amateurish, the acting is laughable and not credible, but that is mostly due to a really poorly written storyline and ridiculous scenes and conversations. The characters are flat and suffer from a drama school play feel, there is no easing in to the story, just straight into some mediocre effects. The soundtrack feels dated and just plain lazy. The idea has something, but it suffers from all above. Nowadays we can expect more from low budget horror, just look at It Follows and the Blair Witch Project. A little more contemporary and better script writing and this could be something fun.
I watched this because it supposedly was highly audience rated. I don't know how; it made almost no sense and the acting wasn't good at all. Don't waste your time.
Boring boring and boring and the character Valerie looks like a slender man.
This movie seemed like it could've had promise, but between the awful sound and the story line becoming weak after one of the dead sees him, which has never happened before. I thought it would get better from there, but the movie just lost its appeal. I thought Dunning would be interacting with the dead more than he did. I wanted to like it, but it was a fail.
SPOILER FREE REVIEW Just saw an advance screening for Revelator (2017) and I have to say that for all its constraints (perhaps in spite of them) the film proves an ambitious, intriguing indie that walks the line between a ghost story and a murder mystery in a way that the majority of films of its ilk can't manage. The central mystery to the film strays from the run-of-the-mill whodunit gradually, and leads the audience down a rabbit hole into the obscure and occult. The production and performances are subtle and understated, and the photography equally deliberate. Revelator is a slow, methodical exercise in deception frankly unlike any "indie horror" you're likely to see, and for that it's worth your time.
and the sound are SO bad, I couldn't go on watching. Difficult to believe that all three of these people (two for sound, one for acting) are experienced professionals because their product is just awful. Everybody else and the writing seemed interesting, as far as I got. But I couldn't stand anymore. I cannot recommend this film.
My wife and I watch a horror movie every Sunday night, and have been doing so for about 7 years. Of all of those hundreds of movies (some of which were really bad) this was by far the worst. The filmography was horrible, the acting was horrible, the sound quality was horrible, the plot was horrible. Whoever made it should be ashamed and saddened by their true failure. This movie was so bad that I created an IMDb account just to write this review. 0/10 stars I hope you take this review seriously and save yourself 2 hours.
