I took a 5 year old to this and she liked the songs, she said but she wiggled and squirmed the whole time because the film drags along going over former tales about the friends of piglet. Cute but for 5 and under for sure.
Having had some success with 'The Tigger Movie' previously, it's no surprise that Disney then tried to repeat the trick with a film centred on Piglet. It's not as strong as the previously mentioned film, but passes the time.
All the childish humor and genuine kindness at the core of this world has been swallowed up by ingenuous storytelling and sappy sentimentality. And before you say I'm taking it too seriously, you should know that I think the 1970s original is a straight-up masterpiece, and I hold these against that scrutiny. So back off.
Cute for children, but adults may find themselves checking their watches. Our family enjoyed it. Our 9-year-old got very sad at the middle and near the end of the movie. As a family film, it still got a thumbs up from us. The songs by Carly Simon were very enjoyable. My son especially liked it when Pooh changed the end of the "House at Pooh Corner" story.
Let's face it, this is Disney and this is about the most insignificant little guy of the bunch. Any review looking at this movie as anything short of entertainment for kids is missing the point. But I digress...I have taken my kids (3 and 6) to see a few kids movies in the theatre. This is the first time they both sat still and totally silent through the whole movie. For me (and most any other parent) that in and of itself makes this movie fabulous. There were laughs, but mostly this was a very good movie to make people and kids realize value and worth. A nice theme and a great ending. As always Disney manages to end with a great deal of the realization of friends and family being important. I recommend anyone with kids seeing this movie. It isn't the most stimulating of all movies (i.e. Shrek, Monsters, Inc) but it's for the kids, not the adults.
