This movie is a highly underrated comedy of errors. It features intelligent humor and a very talented cast. How can you go wrong with Tomei, Kurtwood Smith (from That 70's Show!), Linda Gray, Tim Curry, Don Ameche and Harry Shearer (of Simpsons fame)? This movie is based on a stage play and its roots show. If you are looking for something without the endless parade of crotch jokes, this is a movie you should watch!

A Full cast of professional, talented cast- old and new actors starting with Yvonne de Carlo, Kirk Douglas, Don Ameche to Tim Curry , Marisa Tomei . They're all Amazingly Funny. The script is Hysterical!!!!! A classic play-style of script that has well balanced into a movie. Its just like being at the playhouse theater. Enjoy , again and again.

I think the movie was & still is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It is not for the ADHD crowd; you have to pay attention to the details. The whole cast is a hoot - Stallone, Curry, Tomei, Muti, Palmetierri, etc, - make the timing just right. I love the costumes and the Snaps Provolone house. I remember when it came out it didn't do well, and since we didn't make a whole of money, we went to see it at the Byrd, a second run theatre. I think it was the best $3.00 we ever spent at the movies. My daughter, who is 32 years old, still watches our VHS copy. Our 11 year old granddaughter thinks it's funny. If a Lucille Ball award for comedy existed, "Oscar" would definitely win.

Watching on hulu. Such an underrated gem. Well written, great casting. What happens when a mob boss has to go legit. Set in 40's ish it is hilarious. Oscar has to balance going legit with family turmoil, getting his crew to be upstanding citizens, & a meeting with business men.

But it wasn't this movie! Award Winning Cast! Probably Stallone's best opportunity to break away from the Rambo and Rocky images, this is one of the most enjoyable, pleasant, family entertaining movies ever made. Where is should be a classic, it was deep-shelved and removed from any video, DVD or online streaming lists. But as the movie's own tag-line said: "In crime and comedy, timing is everything". While Stallone takes center stage, this beautifully arranged supporting staff, wonderfully done cinematography and brilliantly written script make this a movie for the masses that should have had a 2nd and 3rd life in video and DVD sales... and would be one of the most viewed videos on Netflix given the chance. Just the sound bytes of Tim Curry's Dr. Thornton Poole, Peter Riegert's Aldo, Chazz Palminteri's Friendly thug Connie... If you don't catch yourself off guard laughing and this fast moving quippy dialog, you are missing your humor gene.

"Oscar" is one of Sylvester Stallone's finest films--definitely his best comedy. That's not to say he's a great comedic actor, but he's surrounded here by hilarious dialogue, really good comic actors, an amazingly intricate plot, sure direction, and wonderful period set pieces. A knowledge of French farce helps in understanding why this is such a good slapstick comedy, but not necessary. People forget that this movie was #1 in America for about three weeks when it debuted. Now, sadly, it's lumped with Stallone's bad comedies, "Rhinestone" and "Stop! Or my Mom will Shoot!" as examples of his inability to be funny. But do yourself a favor and check out this little gem of a comedy.

I don't know why this was rated so low, I would give it at least a 7. I saw it when it came out and thought it was very funny, and I just saw it again on HBO and still think it is funny. The plot is complicated but well paced and easy to follow (and yeah the ending is a little predictable). The acting is great, including Stallone who suits the role well. There are many people who dislike a movie because they don't like the actor. For them I say, the movie is funny in spite of Stallone.

I am actually not a that big fan of sly movies but i liked this one, since it has the taste of an european movie. It did not look like a hollywood movie at the beginning. I think it has just something to do with the casting and the story. This movie is one of the best comedy movies i have seen. Its lots of funnier than Police Acadamy. That kind of movies mostly scare and make uncomfortable at the beginning but OSCAR makes you laugh from the beginning to the end. The jokes are very funny and INTELLIGENT. The movie start with a slow tempo, like about 1 joke every minute but late in the movie the bombardment of jokes start. It makes you laugh simply the sh*t out of you. I have never liked another comedy like this one. Please watch this one. You MUST see it.
