This movie, though well directed and beautifully filmed, is a little stretch of reality for anyone who actually served in combat. I served with many African American soldiers and never seen any of them conduct themselves as depicted in this film. Combat is a fast moving affair and no soldier would be given the time to interact with the locals for the length of time portrayed in this movie.

I wish IMDb still had their discussion board because I would like to discuss this movie. First off I doubt this movie was meant to be a docudrama. They just instilled a story to the factual event. I am not a Spike Lee fan but I liked this movie and think it was one of Spikes best works. I like movies that evoke feeling and this movie did lots of that. Yes it could have been better but I can almost say that about every movie I have ever viewed. All in all I really enjoyed Miracle at St Anna.

This is Spike Lee's worst movie. Don't waste your time.

This movie was a complete waste of time. I have nothing good to say about it. Well, one good thing. Actually, two good things! :P It has to do with the character Renata. I think you get my what I'm referring to. Just search Google images and save yourself 2+ hours of terribleness. Acting = bad, dialogue = bad, score = bad, story = bad. I was surprised because from the trailer it looked like it was going to be good. What makes it even worse is I love movies about WWII. It's amazing to me that Hitler was a real man and believed what he was doing was good for his people and country. Anyways, back to the movie. It's a shame Spike didn't realize he was trying to polish a turd before it was put in the can and labeled final cut. Better luck next time Spike!

Those who are complaining about the use of the N word have not hung out with African Americans, or indeed black people of any heritage - this is a word that is historically accurate and still used in conversations between people on a regular basis. Get over yourselves. Meanwhile, don't allow this PC nonsense to cloud the fact that this is a superb, uplifting and thought provoking piece of film-making from one of the most gifted directors of any generation. Beautiful performances, clever camera-work, deft use of comedy and colour to distract from the often harrowing subject matter - truly and utterly superb. If Spike isn't holding at least one of those little gold men come awards season as a result of this movie, there is something wrong in the world. Cinema gold.

I can't understand the low number reviews. Yes, it's a little long, but the editing is logical, the acting terrific, the adaptation by the author first-rate. I think this will garner several Oscar nominations. It's the best film I've seen this year, by far. Derek Luke, McBride (for screenplay adaptation), Spike for direction, and best picture are all logical categories for the Academy to consider. As a war film, it's also astonishingly realistic. It reminded me at times of Saving Private Ryan. In fact, in twenty years or so, they could show these two films together in revival houses, if there are still such a thing in the future.
