The first three quarters of men had my attention, but unfortunately the last act left me feeling like I missed something. The slow, eerie cinematography in the beginning was breathtakingly beautiful. Perhaps the symbolism & folklore underlying the final events were lost on me, but I think that's giving the film too much credit. I love body horror, but it felt more comical than anything. The end left something to be desired, the whole "rebirth" concept could've worked better if it relied on less shock value & carried more substance. Maybe it was just me, but I knew what it was leading up to long before it was "revealed" which made the ending fall flat. I'm not sure how the viewer was supposed to feel afterwards, but it don't think it had the desired effect. Overall, it fell flat of its potential. Excellent performances for a dull movie I will remember for all the wrong reasons.

Was this science fiction? Was this a horror film? Did she imagine the whole thing because of a nervous breakdown? Was a "shape shifter" involved? I loved his other movies, unfortunately have to give this a thumbs down.

I cant believe this movie was even made. Who told someone to make this? Who wasted the money? I cant believe I wasted my time watching this crazy, make no sense, stupid, TERRIBLE MOVIE!!!!! I swear this is the year of just plain awful movies and this one is the worst. Please dont waste your money because you will will only be upset and angry after watching this crazy movie.

While the atmosphere and acting in this movie are particularly good highlights, the movie overall just tries too hard to be "elevated" horror. Feels like the director is somewhat forcing me to feel afraid only because of the atmosphere and music and acting, but once I look past this and at the story, it all falls apart.

I feel about Men the same way I did about Jordan Peele's Get Out - it's a horror movie that keys into fears that it would never occur to me to have. (I am an older white male.) Once you put yourself in the mindset of the protagonist, here a woman who has recently lost her husband under complicated circumstances, you can see that everything weird that happens BELONGS in the movie. If you're like me you might miss that, and I feel fortunate that I didn't because I could use the perspective. Besides all that, it's a tour-de-force for utility player Rory Kinnear, who is great in everything he does; and Alex Garland does a fantastic job of making us alert enough in the first thirty minutes so that we can spot the details later on. It's a movie that has to teach you how to watch it. You probably have to be a little tired of less challenging films to really appreciate it though.

This movie is very bizarre in all the right ways. It's haunting, visceral, somber, and captivating; Jessie Buckley was perfect for this mind blogging ride! Alex Garland is brilliant at atmospheric terror and images that stick with you, I own his other movies and I loved Men for what it is. The first half is has a strong kick of drama and the 2nd half comes out of left field without spoilers it really catches you off guard. Men won't be for everyone there was a older couple that left before the movie started which is kinda good they would've been unsettled I love that sort of thing and so will horror fans.
