Good film. This is a bit of a gem. Funny, heartwarming and well acted, this delivered many laughs. Yes, it is full of gags and stunts, but they not only work, but work well. It is a lovable loser film that has a bit of the 'Revenge of the Nerds' but tighter and funnier story. Director Rick Rotella does a superb job both in front and behind the camera. A difficult balancing act but he pulls it off. You will leave this rooting for the Nerds! Give it a watch!
I could make comparisons to other movies, like Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Napoleon Dynamite or even Friday. But the truth is your should watch this movie for one reason... it's really funny. Enjoy.
Clearly made in the same vein as classic old school comedies, such as Pee-wee's Big Adventure and The Jerk, this is a great chucklefest. If you like rooting for the nerds in your favourite teen comedies, this film is for you. Wonderfully silly entertainment.
What a fun film. Had me laughing out loud. Reminded me a little of Pee-wee's big adventure. Hope this is made into a on-going series. Would love to see more.
Ok, so 2 minutes in, my stomach is turning from bad, exaggerated acting. I can't... who decides to make a movie like this? Do not watch this. DO NOT! And for all these 10/10 and 9/10 reviews, you must be family members of the people making this... excrement.
From the deep historical well of lovable loser movies comes "Marlo Lasker," a film and a character with all the historical trappings of classic, ageless nerddom: From fanny pack to absurdly rolled-up jeans, this is a young man channeling equal parts "Napolean Dynamite" and "Revenge of the Nerds," and doing it in a way that's as over-the-top and as goofball as it is endearing. Rich Rotella is behind the lens as director, and in front of it as Marlo. The character is a terrific shambles from the get-go, tripping over himself with all the exaggerations of the discombobulated while leaving a buffet of prerequisite catastrophes in his wake. That said, Marlo annoyingly but lovingly draws you in with his unwitting buffoonery, and soon enough, we know he'll bypass the bullies on his collision course with attractive women - the validating encounter for the socially awkward male ever since John Hughes' wonderful "Weird Science." There's so much that's warmly and attractively familiar about "Marlo Lasker," yet there's an uplift and an indie methodology that makes this update of a time-tested vehicle something all its own. Highly recommended grass roots comedy. - Was this review of use to you? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!
Ignore all other reviews. 100% sure they were written by the director/ writer/ lead actor. This "film" is pure trash from start to finish, better quality content on youtube channels with 45 subs.
I knew Rich in high school, exactly how I thought he would turn out. Hilarious!
Funny, irreverent and over the top, this comedy really delivers the laughs. Most indie comedies are lacking the main ingredient: laughs, but not Marlo Lasker. Rich Rotella brings to life a unique hysterical nerd who is on a quest to win the girl and defeat the jock, what's not to like about that storyline. I thought the dialogue was really witty, the production value, editing, cinematography and performances were all super solid as well. I highly recommend this whimsical film.
