Luther

I saw Luther last night and I thought it was wonderful. It shows Martin Luther as a man, haunted by the fallenness of the Catholocism of his day. It shows a man who seeks the grace and mercy of God and who proclaims the true Gospel of Jesus Christ to all who will listen. It shows a man who is willing to follow Christ onto his own cross so that people can understand the Good News that is in Jesus Christ. But, most of all it shows a man who is willing to allow himself to be used of God. It shows a man who falls on his face before God and cries out "Here I am, Save Me!" It shows his temptations, his flaws, and the brilliance that God gave him. This is a must see for all people, church-goers or not. It contains a message that is as relevant today as it was hundreds of years ago.

Folks who have never read the whole Bible, and those who don't accept it as the only reliable source of information about God, will not find this historically accurate portrayal of Christianity's rejection of man-made religion as appealing. Truth is often most inconvenient. As Christ conveyed, to the saved, servants like Luther will be the "fragrance of Christ"; to the unsaved, he will be as the "smell of death." The only shortcoming in this moving biography is the lack graphic attention to Catholicism's vicious persecution of genuine Christians (belief in 'Sola Scriptura' was, and today still is, deemed as heresy). This powerful movie may properly have been called 'The Rejection of Babylon the Harlot' as detailed in Rev. 17.

I am a Protestant and I have seen Luther three times and have been patiently waiting for it to be produced for sale. To say I loved it would be not enough. For me, it was one of the most visually descriptive portrayals of a soul being transformed from the curse of the Law into the Kingdom of Grace. I know this review reflects how the movie appealed to my theology but isn't a review personal? I thought the movie was of the highest professional standard and congratulate the producers, director, and cast and most of all the One behind the monk. Thanks for letting me have a comment.

The fact that Luther's virulent anti-semitism and his hatred of the Catholic church were not addressed in this film, does nothing to detract from this stunning production. Every aspect of the film is brilliant...the writing, the acting of the entire cast (particularly Ustinov), the PHOTOGRAPHY, production design, wardrobe, make-up! The locations, the score...perfect. I don't imagine that the teen audience will pick up on it, but for mature movie-lovers this is a refreshing relief from the usual Schwarzenegger garbage.

Luther was a great film. Joseph Fiennes played Martin Luther very well. I think that historically, the movie was quite accurate, however, I think they had to strain a bit to put all of Luther's accomplishments into 2 hours. It seemed a bit rushed at times, and, overall, perhaps a bit long. Luther, however, was a joy to watch, and I recommend it to everyone out there.

This movie was entirely factual and amazingly done. The truth was not hidden, and I was moved. As for the person who commented that the sound was bad, I think it may just have been your experience, because the sound for my viewing was excellent. Good show.

The power of the Roman Catholic Church was a trap for the leaders. The Dark Ages needed some Light. There is no brighter light than the light of the gospel that God is full of mercy and love. Because of that, He gave his Son Jesus to the world. Not to condemn the world, but to save those who believe in Him. Martin Luther pointed me the very heart of the gospel! Thank You Lord, that Martin Luther brought the Bible to the people. We are Yours. Save us... For in the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, "The one who is righteous will live by faith" (Romans 1:17)

Its historical accuracy (and I know what I'm talking about I am highly interested in church history) coupled with surprisingly good acting makes this film rise above many others I have seen. I could not have expected such quality from a film of it's production values (in fact I didn't). Also It does fairly well with not being overly cruel to the Catholics. It portrays them fairly with out being unrealistic (I was concerned it would just be a huge Catholic bashing fest when I went in). As for direction I found it pleasantly exciting, not Spielberg by any means but the film was made in and extremely interesting manner. Allow me to elaborate, the film is generally cut into very short scenes and switches rapidly (accept for scene's of special significance for witch it takes more time obviously). This style gives the film a well earned since of pace that make it far more exciting than any film I have seen in this genre. It is a must see!!
