If you're in the market for a survival film where a lone woman is minutes away from death in a remote Wyoming mountain cabin during a blizzard only to have two people show up with IV's, other medical supplies, blankets, enough food for six months, firewood and more household furnishings than your local IKEA carries, then this is the movie for you! And that's just one of the incredibly serendipitous events that happen to the lead character. It's border line comical after a while. On the plus side, the cinematography is very good and the scenery breathtaking. Ms. Wright does a fine job choosing shots and durations. But the constant improbable miracles that are just shrugged off by the main character make this a tough watch for adults.
Getting away from everything is a start, you will learn much about yourself and how you feel about others. My usual times alone is when I drive around and listen to music. Movie was incredible with the awesome beauty of trees and nature. Although she wanted to get away from everything her curiosity wanted to see why he had not returned. I hope she continues directing more movies!
5/10 - Robin Wright's directorial debut was a well-acted drama that unfortunately was far too dull for my personal tastes
I've always wanted to watch this movie, but I wanted to wait until I was in the right state of mind. After living a turbulent 1.5 years, I hit a moment where things stabilized and I was being my best self and in a peaceful state of mind. I was browsing HBO and saw this and knew it was time (it also helps that I think RWP is absolutely beautiful). If you've ever reached the depths of sadness and have come out on the other end a better and happier human being, you'll enjoy this movie. Some people say it's too slow or boring, but that is because they have never experienced what I'm talking about or they are at a moment in their life where they can't appreciate it. The beauty and stillness and harshness of the land (pun intended) was a metaphor for life for me. It can destroy you or it can breathe life into you. It all depends on if you know how to navigate within it. Enjoy!
Serene mountains, tough life, yet fantastic in its originality.
2 out of 5 stars. A film about a middle age woman who lives in the wilderness and off the grid. After she lost a family member. She tries to find peace within herself. Plot is thin. Direction is dull and boring. Acting is decent.
I fell in love with this movie 4 minutes and 53 seconds in. If you've been around the block; if you've been through the best and the toughest that this life has to offer; if you've experienced pain and joy, love and headache, hopelessness and redemption; if you've come to understand that life is not always what we dreamed it would be, or if you've had the misfortune of experiencing great loss; if you've ever thought about leaving everything behind and coming to terms with who you are as a person, then this will strike a chord.

Robin wright stars and directs this beautiful film. we don't get much info, so we have to turn on our thinking caps. for a change. it's a rough start, for sure, and we don't know were were heading, but hang on. really fine reason to return to movie theaters.
