On December 17, 2025, Seiya Tsutsumi defeated Nonito Donaire by split decision in a 12-round WBA bantamweight world title bout at Ryōgoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. Donaire started strongly and had success with his jab, right hand, and trademark left hook, but Tsutsumi rallied in the second half of the fight with greater activity and pressure, edging a highly competitive contest to retain his world title. The judges scored the bout 117–111 and 115–113 for Tsutsumi, and 116–112 for Donaire.
