a nice comic
source: Diary of a Wimpy Kid
I have read most of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books by Jeff Kinney and liked them, they are funny, relatable, and have likable characters. A lot of people who read these books will know what I am talking about. I did not like the 4 live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, because they were not funny, and they were hard to watch. It felt like they were trying too hard or not trying enough. Now we have Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2021) this time animated, which gave me hope and made me a little excited to see because it looks like the books. Plus, the designs of the characters look exactly like the drawings in the books. I am glad to say that I did this. Greg Heffley and Rowley Jefferson are likable like in the books and have good designs like the drawings in the book, along with their friendship being nice to watch. The movie has recognizable scenes from the first book like the cheese touch that looks good in the animation style. If you had read the books or mostly the first book, then you would understand the things that happen in this. I recommend reading the books, but you can watch this without having read the first book. This is a good adaptation of the first book that I thought was funny and enjoyable.
Im a fan of the book as I grew up with them but despite copy pasting the book bit by bit, the movie ends up beeing very boring, for the most part of the movie there are no objectives or story and for me, none of the jokes managed to land.
Diary of Wimpy Kid is the newest Diary of Wimpy kid movie and I really did like what they did mainly the animation is what i wanted i didn't like the screen time that the mom and dad got because those characters in the live-action movies had character moments u loved I didn't like the ending to this mainly it feels like an story that didn't get finished but that's really it the voice acting is pretty good i really liked this version of Diary of Wimpy Kid So I give Diary of a Wimpy Kid an B.
At least it tries to stay true to the books by Jeff Kinney which i his last movie was Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul back in 2017, at least the characters are not unlikable but Greg and Rowley need more more charm, not one of the worst movies from Disney+ yes i can't believe I used to like this movie since last year, even though the animation is in CGI like the movies from the revival era which are from Tangled, Wreck It Ralph, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Moana, Ralph Breaks The Internet, Frozen 2, Raya And The Last Dragon, Encanto, etc. Many people claim that the first CGI film that Disney made without Pixar was Chicken Little when in reality it was Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas even though Pixar uses a ton of CGI animation which went from Toy Story til present but very dull at best.
